How to make suppositions about the past ?

1) Exprimer son degré de certitude :

En anglais on peut utiliser différents (auxiliaires) modaux pour dire que l’on est + ou - certain de ce que l’on suppose.
Si on est peu sûr on utilise _____________, moyennement sûr ____________ou très sûr _____________.
Si on est très sûr que quelque chose est impossible (= supposition négative), on utilise CAN’T /CANNOT. Si l’on est
moins sûr, on peut utiliser MIGHT NOT ou MAY NOT. Au présent, on utilise le modal voulu, suivi du verbe à l’infinitif.
Ex : You can go, but you must be home before midnight or I might kill you !

2) Faire une supposition sur un événement passé :

These people MUST have

decided to protest because They CAN’T have been happy or
