« Il y a » is an important expression in French. It simply means « there is » or « there are ».

It is really useful for describing where you live.

Example:
À Abou Dhabi il y a une poste. (In Abu Dhabi there is a post office)

If you want to use it to describe something that your town does not have, you say “il n’y a pas
de” and you no longer need the indefinite article (the un/une)

Example:
À Abou Dhabi il n’y a pas de gare. (In Abu Dhabi there isn’t a train station)
