Maximized IP Performance on Data Packet Plane
Data Packet Plane (DPP) adds a high-performance packet switch plane

• Link traffic can be from the DPP and backplane
• Perfect for native mixed-mode, IP+TDM: GigE traffic via the DPP with TDM traffic
(or TDM and IP traffic) via the backplane
• Requires RAC 60E/6XE with DAC GE3
• DPP uses direct connections between the packet data port on a RAC 60E / RAC 6XE
and its associated DAC GE3
• DPP requires Node-based licensing

Equal loss or unequal loss couplers for bands 5 to 38 GHz

• Waveguide couplers for 6 to 38 GHz, coax for 5 GHz
• Equal loss attenuation nominally 3.5 dB per side
• Applies to both transmit and receive directions
OCU WG coupler
• Additional Tx-Rx attenuation compared to a non-protected link is 7 dB

• Additional attenuation from low-loss Tx to low-loss Rx is 3 dB, versus 8dB
for low-to-hi, and 13 dB for hi-to-hi
• Main use is on rain-affected bands, 13 GHz and above - supports a lower 5 GHz coax coupler

Maximizing Link Capacity with ACM Adaptive Coding & Modulation

Superior capacity and spectrum efficiency using ACM

• ACM uses available fade margin to deliver more capacity
• Modulation is dynamically adjusted so highest modulation and hence highest capacity is
provided at any time
• Four dynamically switched modulations - QPSK, 16 QAM, 64 QAM or 256 QAM provide
nominal 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x capacity increments from QPSK
• Uniquely, each modulation has two coding options, one for maximum throughput, one for
maximum system gain, to provide intermediate capacity increments
• Provides a total of eight modulation states, any four of which can be selected for ACM
• With all four selected (QPSK to 256 QAM) , each is set for maximum throughput or maximum gain
• With just two selected, such as 64 QAM with 256 QAM, each can be set for maximum gain and for
maximum throughput, to provide four step AM operation
• Modulation switching is hitless - higher priority traffic is not affected during a change to a
lower modulation – and existing traffic is unaffected during a change to a higher modulation
• IP traffic is prioritized using QoS options
• Any E1 connections are dropped and restored in user-specified order

Smooth ACM Capacity Stepping
Shows the eight ACM steps on a 56 MHz channel
with airlink capacity and Ethernet throughput
maximums for each step
• The options provide smooth capacity and
throughput progression from lowest to highest,
from base QPSK maximum gain, to 256 QAM
maximum throughput
• Any two, three of four modulation states can be
selected under ACM

IP Throughput Acceleration
Link throughputs are increased by suppressing parts of the Ethernet frame
not used to transport payload data
• Unused data is stripped off at the input and re-instated at the output
• It means more payload data can be accepted into, and carried over the link
• It effectively reduces the bandwidth needed to forward traffic
• Eclipse packet Node uses IFG and Preamble suppression
• 20 bytes are replaced by just 4 bytes over a link to provide
a marked throughput improvement on small frame sizes
• Throughput improves by about 23 percent on 64-byte
frames, 6 percent on average-size 260-byte
frames, reducing to 1% on 1518 byte frames
• Example illustrates the transformation of 123 Mbit/s BW
at input to 100 Mbit/s over an Eclipse link (64 byte frames)
• At the far end the reverse action occurs to reinstate the
suppressed bytes, restoring the 123 Mbit/s flow

Unmatched Network Resilience
Protection options encompass platform, links, user interfaces, and network
• Platform management and power supply functions are protected using the NPC
• Link protection options of hot-standby, space diversity, frequency diversity, or hybrid
dual diversity
• Ethernet and TDM user interfaces are 1+1 protectable
• Network-based protection for IP traffic and TDM
• IP redundancy on ring networks using RSTP or G.8032v2
• IP redundancy on co-path links using L1 or L2 LAG
• TDM redundancy on Eclipse Super PDH rings
• Ring capacities to 64xE1 or 75xE1
• North Gateway or Any-to-Any ring topologies

Eclipse elements automatically detect and recover from incidents

The industry’s most secure microwave radios
Aviat Networks’ Strong Security Suite comprises
three complementary security feature sets:

 SECURE MANAGEMENT
Based on FIPS-140-2: Secure access over unsecured
networks; protects against accidental or intentional
misconfiguration

 PAYLOAD ENCRYPTION
Certified FIPS-197: Secures all payload and network
management data on airlink; prevents “eavesdropping”
and “replay” attacks. AES 128, 192, or 256 bit keys

 INTEGRATED RADIUS CAPABILITY

Supports centralized access control: Enables remote AAA;
centralizes management of Eclipse user accounts;
improves accountability, troubleshooting and root cause
analysis)

PORTAL Master Eclipse Craft Tool
Eclipse configuration, commissioning and diagnostics craft tool
• Web-enabled Java-based PC application - Ethernet LAN connection to radio
• View any radio in network from the connected radio
• Automatic matching to always match the version of system software installed
on the radio
• Highly user-friendly - all screens have a Windows look and feel
• Real time overview of system status
• Configuration changes made in one screen immediately reflect through
to all relevant screens
• Diagnostics include system summary, event browser, system controls,
history, performance, alarms
• Login security options, basic and strong
• Works seamlessly with ProVision, the Aviat Networks element manager
