Alain Louvier, born in Paris in 1945, after a Bachelor's
degree in Mathematics in 1961 entered a long and arduous
road at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique,
which eventually led him in 1972 to the nomination as
Director of the Ecole Nationale de Musique in Boulogne­
Billancourt, his family's home-town. During these long
schoolyears, he was awarded 9 First Prizes. among which
particularly those of Composition (Tony Aubin), Musical
Analysis (Olivier Messiaen), Piano Accompaniment (Hen­
riette PUig-Roget), History of Music (Norbert Dufourcq),
Orchestra Conducting (Manuel Rosenthal), and Harpsi­
chord (Robert Veyron-Lacroix).
He was the last, in 1968, to be awarded the "Premier Grand
Prix de Rome" and consequently lived as a resident at the
Villa Medicisfrom 1969 to 1972. Among other honours, he
was conferred the scholarship of the "Fondation de la
Vocation" in 1966, the Arthur Honegger Prize in 1975 and
the Paul Gilson Prize in 1981.
In 1991 Alain Louvier was named professor ofmusic analy­
sis at the National Superior Conservatory of Music in
Paris.

Alain LOUVIER, ne aParis en 1945, bachelier mathema­

Superieur de Musique une longue route qu'il termine
en 1972, lorsqu'il est nomme Directeur de l'l~co1e Natio­
nale de Musique de Boulogne-Billancourt, ville dont
sa famille est originaire. Durant ces longues annees
d'etudes, il obtient 9 Premiers Prix, notamment ceux de
composition (Tony Aubin), analyse musicale (Olivier
Messiaen), accompagnement au piano (Henriette Puig­
Roget), histoire de la musique (Norbert Dufourcq),
direction d'orchestre (Manuel Rosenthal) et clavecin
(Robert Veyron-Lacroix).
En 1968, if est Ie dernier ase voir decerner Ie "Premier
Grand Prix de Rome" et il est pensionnaire de 1969 a
1972 ala Villa M6dicis. Entre autres distinctions, il reyoit
la bourse de la Fondation de la Vocation (1966), Ie Prix
