A. FORMATION

Thanksgiving
La fête de Thanksgiving (‘merci pour avoir
donné’) est une des plus anciennes traditions
américaines. Elle remonte à la venue des
premiers pèlerins anglais en Amérique. Et
pour célébrer, en 1621, leur première moisson
sur cette nouvelle terre, ces pèlerins ont fait un
festin avec les Indiens, pendant trois jours.
De nos jours, Thanksgiving, fêté le dernier
jeudi du mois de novembre, est devenu un jour
férié. Oncles, tantes, grands-parents, petits-
enfants, toute la famille se retrouve autour
d'une dinde farcie aux marrons, de patates
douces et d'une tarte à la citrouille. C'est donc
encore un festin, mais il ne dure plus trois
jours !
Independance Day
L’Independance Day est aux Américains ce
que le 14 juillet est aux Français : leur fête
nationale.
Il y a un peu plus de deux cents ans, le
4 juillet 1776, les États-Unis se déclarèrent
indépendants de la Grande-Bretagne. Depuis
ce jour, le 4 juillet est devenu jour férié en
Amérique. À cette occasion, le drapeau flotte
devant chaque maison ; les enfants, habillés
aux couleurs de leur drapeau, défilent dans les
rues en tenant des ballons. La journée se
termine par le feu d’artifice traditionnel.
