Comprendre une vidéo ou un enregistrement audio
La méthode est basée sur trois écoutes.
Organisez-vous, divisez une feuille en trois ─ une partie pour chaque écoute ─ ou tracez des bulles
ou un tableau ; à chacun sa méthode !
Première écoute :
1. Concentrez-vous sur les informations générales :
Le sujet, les personnages, le lieu, l’époque, l’ambiance, la musique, le moment, etc.
2. Repérez les mots transparents, les mots porteurs de sens, les termes répétés, les données
chiffrées, les indications horaires.
3. Prenez en notes les mots-clés, les mots essentiels, que vous entendez. Surtout n'essayez pas de
noter des phrases entières.
(Par exemple : American – messengers – courriers – Peter Young – 28, etc.).
Deuxième écoute :
4. Servez-vous du contexte. Identifiez les éléments (bruit, voix…) qui donnent des informations :

1. Faites attention à l’intonation de votre interlocuteur afin de repérer ses intentions.
2. Répondez avec des phrases complètes, même courtes.
3. Vous ne comprenez pas ? Demandez un éclaircissement en anglais :
• Could you repeat, please?
• I am sorry, I don’t understand.
• Could you say that again, please?
4. Assurez-vous de bien connaitre les mots interrogatifs afin de pouvoir comprendre et répondre
correctement à des questions.
5. Écoutez attentivement les questions et repérez les mots-clés.
Appuyez-vous sur ces mots-clés pour formuler vos réponses.
6. Utilisez des « gaps fillers ».
Apprenez à utiliser des mots ou expressions qui vous donneront le temps de réfléchir :

• I mean…
• Let me think…
• You know…

7. Maitrisez les expressions qui permettent d’exprimer votre opinion et de donner votre avis :

8. Parlez clairement et de manière audible.

Comprendre un texte
1. Listez les informations périphériques, le paratexte : le titre, la nature, la date, l’auteur, l’origine,
le vocabulaire traduit en bas de texte...
2. Repérez :
• les noms propres : personnages, villes, pays, monuments, et ceux qui commencent par une
majuscule (jours, mois…) ;
• les indications chiffrées : prix, dates, quantités, âges ;
• les termes connus : les mots transparents, répétés, importants ;
• les marqueurs de temps : déterminez le temps de la narration (passé, présent ou futur).
3. Examinez la structure du texte.
Notez les termes qui introduisent chaque paragraphe et trouvez l’idée qui est développée.
4. Élucidez le sens des mots inconnus.
Aidez-vous du contexte, de la fonction du mot, de sa structure (racine, préposition, terminaison,
etc.).
5. Répondez aux questions :
• QUI ?
Pour trouver le narrateur, les personnes, etc.
• OÙ ?
Pour situer le(s) lieu(x) de l’action.
• QUOI ?
Pour savoir ce qu’il se passe.
• QUAND ?
Pour connaitre le moment de l’action.
• POURQUOI ?
Pour trouver les causes, les motivations (because, since, for, consequently, hence, then, therefore…).
• COMMENT ?
Pour déterminer la manière dont se déroule l’action ou le propos (adverbes, gérondifs, passifs).
6. Déterminez le point de vue et les impressions de l’auteur et/ou des personnages : adjectifs,
adverbes, auxiliaires modaux, verbes d’opinion.
7. Mettez en relation tous ces indices pour donner du sens au texte.

1. Créez des cartes mentales (mind maps) pour visualiser votre thème :
• placez le thème au centre ;
• faites partir des branches du centre ;
• posez des questions dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre, du général au particulier.

4. Croisez et vérifiez les informations pour être sûr(e) de ce que vous dites : sachez de quoi vous parlez.

supports, par sécurité (cloud, clé USB, mail…).
6. Surlignez les informations afin de résumer les documents : vous ne pourrez pas tout dire, ni tout retenir.
7. Vérifiez le lexique inconnu dans un dictionnaire pour mieux le maitriser.
8. Triez les informations selon votre besoin. N’EMPILEZ PAS les informations pour remplir le vide.
9. Comprenez bien tous les éléments que vous allez retenir : garder des choses que vous ne comprenez pas vous
