L’impératif (the imperative) is used to give orders or advice to one or more people.
The imperative mood only exists in the tu, nous and the vous form.
The imperative mood is conjugated in the same way as the present tense, but the subject
pronouns are omitted.
Par exemple :
Regular Verbs
(Note : In the ‘tu’ form of verbs that have ‘es’ in the ending, we cut the s from the ending. Check the
above mentioned example.)
1. Être : To be
Tu es Sois! (Be!)
Nous sommes Soyons! (Let’s be!)
2. Avoir : To have
Tu as Aie! (Have!)
3. Aller : To go
5. Savoir : To know
The negative form of the imperative mood is formed by adding ne or n’ before the verb and pas
after the verb.
