Le Pronom Y:
- Y is a pronoun referring to a previously mentioned place.
- It always appears before the verb in a sentence.
Ex:
- Aubyn met des affiches à l'épicerie.
- Aubyn y met des affiches.
Translation:
- Aubyn puts up posters at the grocery store.
- Aubyn puts up posters there.
Ex:
- Est-ce que tes grands-parents vont aller en Floride?
- Oui, ils y vont
Translation:
- Are your grandparents going to Florida?
- Yes, they are going there.
La négation:
- To turn a phrase to the negative in French you must sandwich the verb with
ne - pas.
Ex:
- Je suis très fort en mathématiques.
- Je ne suis pas très fort en mathématiques.
Translation:
- I am very strong in mathematics.
- I am not very strong in mathematics.
