strumentation currently in orbit measures
pollution on a much larger scale, maybe
between 20 kilometres and 500 kilome-
tres.”
“The problem with that is it means
you can’t actually pinpoint particular
emissions to more than the resolution of
the footprint.”
The downside is the microspectrom-
eter can’t see through clouds – something
all orbiting instruments have in com-
mon – but with a smaller footprint on
the ground, there’s less chance of clouds
getting in the way than a satellite with a
