Subjonctive : PART I
I) Present subjonctive
1st group :
3rd group :
The past subjunctive expresses an uncertain action, supposed to have taken place at the time
we express ourselves.
The past subjunctive is a compound tense: we use the subjunctive of the auxiliary Être or Avoir
and the past participle of the verb to be conjugated, as the Passé composé but the auxiliary
doesn't use the same conjugation.
Example : I doubt they wrote these letters => Je doute qu'ils aient écrit ces lettres.
You must be gone before noon. => Il faut que vous soyez partis avant midi.
