A special care shall be taken in unpacking the Pixium 4X43R in order to avoid water condensation

damage it. When opening the sealed bag, it shall be made sure that the temperature of the detector
is not lower than the ambient air temperature.

In case of doubt, an acclimatization time (with anti-ESD blister closed) - depending on the relative
conditions between storage and operation environment - has to be followed. For the worst case
(minimum storage temperature to maximum operation temperature and high humidity), an
acclimatization time of 7.5 hours is recommended.
The recommendation about the acclimatization time must be followed to prevent any Pixium 4X43R
damage.
2.1.3 ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Refer to the Pixium Rad 4X43 C (see Ref [1] and Ref [3]) and Pixium Rad 4X43 G (see Ref [2] and
Ref [4]) Technical Specifications for more information about the transport and storage
environmental conditions and about the environmental operation conditions.
Do not turn on the system when condensation is formed on Pixium 4X43R.

The final destination of the Pixium Rad 4X43 is the medical diagnostic radiography. This one must
be carried out in presence of a qualified medical personnel. The possible clinical parameters are
under the control of the system manufacturer.
The system manufacturer must verify that the specified performance of the Pixium Rad 4X43 is
compatible with the targeted application. The clinical parameters are under the control of the system
manufacturer who must check periodically that the Pixium Rad 4X43 meets the requirements for the
targeted application.
3.5.2 APPLIED PARTS
The Pixium Rad 4X43 has no applied parts. In normal operating condition, there is no direct contact
between the patient and the detector, whatever the application is, such as bucky table or wall-stand

3.7 Recycling
In case of dismantling the product, the local regulations regarding the hazardous substances must
be followed and precautions must be taken to prevent damage to the personnel’s health and to the
environment.

WEEE directive (2002/96/EC) and your national law.
This product should be handed over to a designated collection point or to an authorized collection
site for recycling waste electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). Improper handling for this type of

3.10 End User Information
The following information must be clearly stated in the radiology system User's Manual:
• In case of collision of the Pixium 4X43R with a tough surface or in case of rough shock, a
visual inspection is required to detect any mechanical deformation. In such case, the use of
detector must be considered as hazardous and the detector must be returned to Thales for
analysis and/or repair.
• During maintenance and installation of Pixium 4X43R in the system, it must be handled with
care to avoid injuries to the persons.
3.11 Laser/LED Product
The XRAYEN output transmitters emits a continuous laser radiation at 650nm when the X-ray
enable is active. This transmitter is compliant to IEC 60825 Class-1 limitations.
Do not stare into the beam or view directly with optical instruments.

substrate, to protect the sensitive layer and active array of the detector.

5.4.4 WATER TIGHTNESS
The Pixium 4X43R detector does not include a protection against ingress of water. The Ingress
Protection level is IPx0.
5.5 Accessories
For proper operation of the detector within a Radiographic System, an anti-scattering grid and an
automatic exposure control device must be used. These devices are not part of the detector; they
must be supplied and installed by the System integrator. The detector has no direct mechanical
interface for such devices.

6.6.2 X-RAY ON/OFF EVENTS
These two events generated by Pixrad allow also to synchronize the X-ray emission, which must
start after the EVT_XRAY_ON event and must finish before the EVT_XRAY_OFF.
X-ray Enable signal only indicates to the System that the detector is ready to receive X-rays.
It’s the System responsibility to control the actual emission of X-rays.
Safety precaution must be taken at the System level to avoid over-exposition in case the event
EVT_XRAY_OFF has not been emitted or not received.

11.3 Periodic calibration
Thales strongly recommends to perform a calibration of the Pixium Rad 4X43 system :
- After the installation ;
- After any major change on the system settings and hardware configuration ;
- At least every 12 months.
The image quality must be verified after each calibration in order to verify that the detector still
complies with the technical specification. A Pixrad function allows to compute the ECV.

12.2 Power supply range
During boot-up sequence, if the power supply fails out of the specified range (refer to Input
Specification in section 0), the detector might turn to a “Not available” status and will not go to normal
operation (no image generated).
If power supply output is too low, the detector will not boot-up at all.
Check your power supply to restart operation.
12.3 Image quality
For any diagnostic requested to the Thales CTS concerning the image quality, it is necessary to send
by ftp the set of service files generated by the Pixrad function GetLastAcquisitionData. This
function should be integrated into the system application software. It is also available in the Pixrad-
demo tool.
