 Permanent Residency In Chile The Home Straight
Hier, nous avons eu le papier magique. Comme vous
pouvez le penser, ce n'était pas suffisant. Hé, on est au
Chili: vous avez toujours besoin d'un deuxième papier
pour accréditer le premier. Un jour, ce sera pire qu'en
France. Je plaisante.
Nous sommes allés à la police internationale pour
qu'ils entrent nos noms dans un fichier, la version
moderne du coup de tampon, et nous donnent un
papier qui nous permettrait d'en obtenir un autre: la
"cedula", la carte d'identité locale. Ce matin, nous
sommes allés à l'enregistrement civil, avec tous les
papiers -et leurs photocopies! pour demander nos
cedulas. Elles devraient être prêtes dans 2 semaines.
Je suis sûre que vous commencez à comprendre
pourquoi nous avons préféré ne pas déménager avant
d'avoir obtenu tous les documents. Ce n'est pas
quelque chose que vous souhaitez refaire trop souvent.
Yesterday, we got the magic document. As you may
think, it was not enough. Hé! it's Chile: you always
need a second document to back up the first one.
Some day, it will be worse than in France. Just
kidding.
We went at the international police for them to enter
our names in some data file, the modern version of
stamping, and give us a document that would allow us
to get another one: the "cedula", the local identity
card. This morning, we went to the civil registration,
with all the documents -and their photocopies! to
apply for our cedulas. They should be ready within 2
weeks.
I am sure you start understanding why we have
prefered not to move until we have got all the
documents. It is not something you wish to start anew
too many times.
 Cleaning Crisis

Il y a six mois Pierre et moi avons commencé à faire

avons appris que le droit de résider en permanence au
Chili nous était accordé. Nous devions aller à un
bureau du gouvernement régional et tendre nos
passeports pour que quelqu'un les tamponne.
Donc, vendredi matin, à l'ouverture, nous faisons la
queue avec des centaines d'autres personnes. Le
bureau où on s'occupe des problèmes de visa est au
cinquième étage. La queue commence dans la rue et
s'enroule sur toute la hauteur de la cage d'escalier.
Nous avons monté marche à marche et avons enfin
atteint le cinquième étage. Quelques pas de plus et
nous pouvions lire l'emploi du temps. On ne tamponne
les visas permanents que le lundi.
Nous y serons.
Six month ago I and Pierre started doing what we had
to do to obtain a permanent residence visa in Chile.
That is to say, one month before, we filled documents
in order to get the documents we had to fill to apply.
And so, seven month after the first step, on Thursday,
we learnt that we were granted the right to live
permanently in Chile. We had to go to an office of the
regional government and hand out our passports for
someone to stamp them.
So, Friday morning, at the opening hour, we were
standing in line with hundreds of other people. The
office where they take care of visa problems is on the
fifth floor. The queue starts on the street and rolls up
around the stair case.
We went up step by step and at last reached the fifth
floor. Some steps more and we could read the
schedule. They stamped permanent visas on Mondays
only.
