La présente traduction commentée de Mildred Galland-Szymkowiak des trois textes principaux de la métaphysique solgérienne présente une double ambition. D’une part, la traductrice entend permettre la diffusion auprès d’un large public d’un auteur longtemps négligé en dépit de son immersion dans le bouillonnement intellectuel de son époque. D’autre part, l’ouvrage vise à restituer la pensée propre à Solger en évitant les trois écueils auxquels s’est heurtée sa réception jusqu’ici : 1) la réduction de sa philosophie à une simple théorie de l’art ; 2) la prétendue dépendance de cette philosophie à la pensée schellingienne ; et 3) sa réduction au statut de « chaînon manquant [1] » entre idéalisme transcendantal (Kant, Fichte et le premier Schelling) et idéalisme spéculatif (le deuxième Schelling et Hegel).
