TOPIC 1: Days, Months and Years
Students will be taught days of the week and months of the year. Also, students
will learn how to say the date in French.
Les jours de la semaine 
Quel sont les jours de la semaine ? (What are the days of the week?)

Ce sont: (They are)

Lundi -Monday
Mardi- Tuesday
Mercredi- Wednesday
Jeudi- Thursday
Vendredi- Friday
Samedi - Saturday
Dimanche- Sunday
NB. Lundi is the first day of the week in French.

Les mois de l’annee

Quel sont les mois de l’année? (What are the months of the year?)

Ce sont: (They are)

Janvier-January
Février -February
Mars -March
Avril - April
Mai - May
Juin - June
Juillet - July
Août - August
Septembre - September
Octobre - October
Novembre- November
Décembre - December
Il y a combien de jours dans un mois? (How many days are in a month?)
Il y a 30 ou 31 jours dans un mois.
(There are 30 or 31 days in a month.
Mais en février, il y a 28 ou 29 jours.
(But in February, there are 28 or 29 days.)
Il y a combien de jours dans l’année ? (How many days are in a year?)
Il y a 365 ou 366 jours dans une année.
(There are 365 or 366 days in a year.)
Note: Unlike in English, names of months and days in French start with small
letters when they occur in the middle of a sentence.
Exemple:
i. Aujourd’hui, c’est dimanche, le 10 septembre 2008.
(Today is Sunday, 10th September, 2008)
ii. Le dimanche, je vais à l’église avec mes parents.
(On Sundays, I go to church with my parents.)
You could also say,
Aujourd’hui, c’est dimanche 10 septembre 2008. (Punctuation and definite article
are omitted here).
