• To describe the future in the past: we use the conditional when expressing a

future action from the viewpoint of the past.

Marc m’a dit qu’il viendrais la semaine prochaine. Marc told me that he would
come the next week.

Marc pensait qu’il pourrait partir en voyage. Marc thought that he could leave
for vacations.

Si clauses (Conditional clauses):

Si + présent = présent
1. Si tu veux, tu peux chanter au concert. – (If you want, you can sing at the concert).
2. Si vous êtes fatigué,vous pouvez se reposer – (If your are tired, you can rest).

Si +présent = futur simple

1. Si je suis libre , je cuisinerai ce soir. – If I am free, I will cook.
2. Si elle m’invite, j’irai à la soirée. If she invites me, I will go to the party.

Si + présent = imperatif
1. Si vous vous rappelez, répondez à la question! – (If you remember, Answer to the
question).
2. Si tu aimes les langues étrangères, apprends le français ! – (If like foreign languages,
learn French).

Si + imparfait = conditionnel présent

1. Si je n’étais pas malade, j’irais au restaurant avec toi. (If was not unwell , I would go to
the restaurant with you.)
2. Si j’avais le temps, j’apprendrais jouer de la guitare. (If I had time, I would learn to play
the guitar)
