Anticipation (EO) : Picture

The scene takes place in a large living room in which the furniture is overturned. The first thing we
notice is the white outline of a dead body and a pool of blood which are the focal point in the
picture. The murder took place in winter since there is snow outside and the calendrer read
December 24th. The motive of the murder is not money because the safe is closed.
Yet it might be love, jealousy, envy, testimony….

The murderer and his/her victim might have known each other for there are two glasses on a desk.
The suspect might have entered through the door and escaped through a Window.

Agatha Christie is a famous British writer who was born in Torquay, in 1890. When she was young,
she didn’t go to school but she was taught at home by her mother. During World War I, she
volunteered as nurse and, in 1914 she married a British pilot named Archibald Christie. In 1928, she
divorced and married a second time, Max Mallowan, an archeologue in 1930. They travelled a lot
together which inspired many of her novels. Her most famous characters are Hercule Poirot and Miss
n Marple. Some of her best-known detective stories are Murder on The Nile, Murder on The Orient
Express…. (She wrote more than 70 detective stories). Her writing in the Third most widely published
after the Bible and Shakespeare.

Ce document, issu de CNN et intitulé Sherlock Holmes Museum, présente le musée de SH à Londres.
Il est basé au 221 b Baker Street, une adresse célébre puisque c’est ici que vivait ce fameux
personnage de fiction. Le reportage débute par l’intervent d’un imitateur de SH qui nous présente le
logement de ce dernier, ainsi que quelques effets de Dr Watson et dit qu’il a 156 ans.

Cette adresse et ce musée encore plus célèbres grâce à la superproduction de Guy Richie qui
perpétue la légende de SH. Promouvoir le tourisme à travers le cinéma existe depuis une quinzaine
d’année, et se révèle très lucratif.

Des touristes visitant le musée sont interviewés. Pour l’un c’est une sorte de rêve ; pour l’autre c’est
une visite incontournable. Une partie des touristes ignorent que SH est un personnage de fiction,
mais cela ne freine pas leur enthousiasme. Le Dr Watson a lui bien existé et vivait juste à côté de
cette fameuse adresse.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Récap) à savoir pour le 5/12/22

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a famous Scottish writer who created the character of Sherlock Holmes. He
was first a doctor yet published 25 Sherlock Holmes stories between 1885 and 1895. Dr Watson is S’'s
most famous friend, whereas his enemy is known as Professor Moriarty. When Conan Doyle decided
to put an end to SH stories, the public disagreed, and he continued writing Holmes stories until 1920.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle died in 1930.
This text is an extract from a novel entitled Tell No One write by Harlan Coben in 2001. It deals with a
murder that occurred 8 years ago and The Police has reopened the file. Elizabeth Beck was murdered
eight years ago and the detectives are suspicious about the culprit. The question Elizabeth’s parent
to know more about the couple. The parents claim they were a happy couple in love. Yet dr Beck is a
violent man who hit his wife which might have engendered her death.

Recap

This film, by Alfred Hitchcock, entitled Lamb to the Slaughter, tells the story of a pregnant woman
who killed her husband. Indeed, the latter enhanced her that he wanted divorce and to marry
another woman he was in love with. Mrs Maloney the took a frozen leg of lamb and hit her husband
who collapsed and died. She went shopping and when she came back, she overturned the lounge to
make believe he was killed while she was out. The police arrive but couldn’t find the weapon which
was cooking in the oven. Mary invited them to share the meal she prepared, they accepted. The
irony of this plot is that the policemen ate the piece of evidence, that is the murder weapon.
