UNE SOLUTION D’URGENCE. Intégré depuis peu au comité de rédaction de la revue L’Architecture d’aujourd’hui, Jean Prouvé présente, dans le numéro de
l’été 1945 consacré aux « Solutions d’urgence », les deux systèmes de construction rapide qu’il a brevetés en 1939 : l’un à ossature extérieure, l’autre à portique
axial, illustré par le montage d’une maison préfabriquée pour les sinistrés dans la cour de ses ateliers à Nancy.
Le reportage détaille la simplicité du procédé constructif et l’efficacité de sa mise en œuvre, assurée par trois hommes avec un matériel minimal. Pour les
rédacteurs de la revue, il s’agit de faire la démonstration des qualités d’invention et de réactivité des constructeurs français – et ce, essentiellement, à l’inten-
tion des pouvoirs publics.
AN EMERGENCY SOLUTION. Having recently joined the editorial board of L’Architecture d’aujourd’hui, Jean Prouvé presented in the 1945 summer issue
dedicated to ‘Emergency Solutions’, the two rapid construction systems that he had patented in 1939: one with an external frame, the other an axial portal
system, illustrated by the erection in the yard of his Nancy workshops of a prefabricated house for those who had lost their homes.
The article details the simplicity of the construction process and the efficiency of its assembly, carried out by three men with a minimum of equipment. For
the magazine’s editors, it was a question of demonstrating the inventiveness and reactivity of French builders, primarily destined for the attention of the
public authorities.

bois, matériau qu’il apprécie. Dès 1941, ses Ateliers adaptent leurs fabrications à la pénurie d’acier : les panneaux de façade, cloisons et plafonds, solivage et plancher
des constructions démontables sont réalisés en bois. Le mobilier n’échappant pas à cette règle, Jean Prouvé conçoit un ensemble de meubles en bois pour équiper
les maisons de sinistrés, mais l’État ne donnera pas suite à cette proposition.
