questions. Le nombre total de points est 100.
1. (20 points) This problem consists of four multiple-choice questions. Write your correct
answer on the answer sheet with brief justification.
(a) A continuous-time signal x(t) = sin(6πt) is uniformly sampled with sampling time
Ts seconds to produce the discrete-time signal x[n] = x(nTs ) shown below. Based
on this plot, what is the value of Ts ?
(b) The plot below shows the discrete-time signal x[n] = cos(Ω0 n).
Français : La figure ci-dessous montre le signal à temps discret x[n] = cos(Ω0 n).

Study the stability of both closed loop systems using the Nyquist diagrams given
below. In these diagrams, the two on the left represent the system Ga (z) (full view
and zoomed view on (-1,0)), the two on the right represent the system Gb (z) (full
view and zoomed view on (-1,0)).
2. (50 points) A piezoelectric actuator is a type of actuators that deforms under the effect
of an applied voltage. Two piezoelectric actuators can be used together to form a
microgripper able to grasp micro-objects with high precision. Such type of microgrippers
are widely used in robotic microassembly and a representation scheme is shown in the
figure below. The dynamics model of this actuator can be represented as a second order
differential equation as follows:

After considering the force a part of the disturbance and canceling the disturbance in
the differential equation, the system model can be reduced to the following differential
equation:

input. We draw the root locus of the system in the open loop system C1 (z)G(z)
and C2 (z)G(z) in the figure below. Using the root locus, determine the values of
the poles that achieve the required specifications.
figure suivante.

(k) Deduce, using the characteristic equation 1+Ki C(z)D(z) = 0 at the pole, the value
of the gain Ki that achieve the required specifications.
(l) We present in the below figure (on the next page) the step response of the closed
loop system using two controllers C1 (z) and C2 (z) with the same gain Ki . Study
if both controllers answers the desired specifications. What can we deduce for this
system?
charge. Que peut-on déduire pour ce système ?
3. (20 points) In this problem, we will use a direct method to design a controller for the
system using a method called Ragazzini method. Suppose we are given a discrete transfer
function G(z) of the plant (plus hold) and a desired transfer function H(z) between
reference R and output Y . The structure is assumed to be a unity feedback system and
the design is to select the computer transfer function D(z) to realize H(z).
