3) Imparfait
Note: Take the nous form of present tense conjugation of the verb.
Remove the ending -ons and add:

- Most -ir verbs are conjugated by adding the “iss” and cancelling out only the “ons”.
Choisir, Reagir, Reflechir and Reussir belong to this group.

Nous finissions
Vous finissiez
Ils finissaient
Elles finissaient
- Many -ir verbs are also not conjugated like finer and others. They are conjugated by
removing the “iss” and only adding the endings. Mentir, Partir and sentier are part of
this group.
- Eg → Je dormais
Tu dormais
Il dormait
Elle dormait
Nous dormons
Vous dormiez
Ils dormaient
Elles dormaient
Etre Avoir
J’étais J’avais
Tu étais Tu avais
Il était Il avait
For verbs that end in “cer”, the pronouns “je, tu, il , elle, ils, elles” are constructed
with “ç”. “Lancer” is one example.
Eg → Je lançais
Tu lançais
Il lançait
Elle lançait
Nous lançions
Vous lançiez
Ils lançaient
Elles lançaient
For verbs that end in “ger”, the pronouns “je, tu, il , elle, ils, elles” are constructed
with “e”. “Manger” is one example.
Eg→ Je mangeais
Tu mangeais
Il mangeait
Elle mangeait
Nous mangions
Vous mangiez
Ils mangeaient
Elles mangeaient
The verbs “falloir” and “pleuvoir” are conjugated only in the “il” form in imparfait.
Eg → Il fallait
Elle pleuvait
4) Future Simple
Avoir endings

- For the “er” and “ir” verbs → we use the whole verb (infinitif) and add the endings.
Eg → I will talk - parler
Je parlerai
He will finish - finir

- For the “re” verbs → we drop the “e” from the infinitif and add the avoir endings.
Eg → We will sell - vendre
Nous vendrons
Exceptions
→ Être - to be - ser
→ Aller - to go - ir
5) L’imperatif
- Imperatif is formed only by using the conjugated form of “tu”, “nous” or “vous”. One
of the examples is the verb “manger”.
Eg → Tu mange
Nous mangeons
Vous mangez
- We use the etre verb conjugation. In the “tu” form, we drop the “s” and the pronouns
are left out. It is never preceded by a subject.

6) Adverbs
- To make an adjective to an adverb, you add an extra “e” (to make it feminine) and
then add “-ment”
Eg → premier - premiere (feminine) - premierement (adverb)
Rules:
1) ier → ière
2) eur → euse/rice
3) if → ive
4) facile → facile (stays the same)
5) eux → euse
Eg → 1) Je chante la chanson.
Je la chanson.
2) Nous prenons les livres.
Nous les prenons.
- Indirect object: Used to replace nouns which have an a,au,a la, a l’ and aux. They
are always preceded by these pronouns. To find the indirect object, ask the question
“to whom” to the verb.
8) Le pronom “en”
Prends-tu de la salade?
Oui, j’en prende.
