New Format of the Professional Development Program (PDP)

Curriculum 2022

Guiding Principles for Participants

The Professional Development Program (PDP) of the World Intellectual Property Organization
(WIPO) Academy developed in 2021 a new format of delivery of its training courses. After its
successful implementation in 2021 and lessons learned, further revisions have been
introduced in the 2022 edition.

PDP transformed the old format of its curriculum to integrate new teaching and learning
methodologies based on projects or assignments, to facilitate the acquisition of practical IP
skills by government officials. Moreover, the new format aims at enabling easy assessment of
the impact of PDP courses on the efficiency of offices and institutions.

The PDP curriculum is composed of three main phases, namely the Distance learning
(4 weeks), PDP advanced training (2 weeks), and Research and report on projects and
assignments (10 weeks). A career-development certificate is awarded only to participants who
complete all three phases. In other words, a total of 16 weeks is needed to complete the three
phases. Participation in the three phases is MANDATORY.

Below, the phases in graph for an easy understanding.
