Il y a 10 ans, Ethan Couch a tué 4 personnes et en a blessé plusieurs autres dans un accident de
conduite en état d’ébriété à Burleston. Il avait 16 ans lorsque les faits se sont passés. Il a percuté un
groupe de personnes qui aidaient Breanna Mitchell, 24 ans, tombée en panne sur le bord la route.
Breanna Mitchell, Holly Boyles, sa fille Shelby Boyles et le pasteur de la jeunesse Brian Jennings sont
tous morts.
Les enquêteurs déterminent que le taux d’alcool de Couch était 0, 243 fois supérieur à la limite légale
au Texas. Avant les faits, il avait volé de la bière chez Walmart et il organisait une soirée juste avant
l’accident. Durant le procès, Couch a plaidé coupable à 4 chefs d’accusations d’homicide involontaire
et à 2 chefs d’accusation d’agression.
Il ne restait plus qu’à décider de la peine, mais les choses ont pris une autre tournure lorsque la
défense de Couch a demandé la clémence affirmant que l’adolescent souffrait de « grippes ». Les
avocats ont soutenu que l’adolescent n’avait aucune boussole morale, ne sachant pas ce qui était
bien et mal en raison.
En décembre 2013, la peine demandée pour 20 ans d’incarcération s’est transformée en 10 ans de
probation.
Pres de 2 ans après sa condamnation, Couch est aperçu à une fête à jouer au bière-pong, c’est une
violation apparente de ses conditions de probation. Lorsque l’agent de probation de Couch a tenté de
faire la lumière sur ce qu’il s’était passé, sa mère Tanya et lui avaient disparu. Ils ont été retrouvés
près de Puerto Vallarta, la police mexicaine a accusé la mère d’Ethan Couch de blanchissement
d’argent et d'entrave à l'arrestation d'un criminel connu. Ramenés aux Etats-Unis, ils sont jugés dans
un tribunal différent et sont condamnés à 720 jours de prison, soit 180 jours pour chaque victime. Il a
purgé sa peine de prison mais reste en probation jusqu’au 10 décembre 2023 et sous surveillance
stricte avec un couvre-feu.

affluent upbringing.

criminal. Brought back to the United States, they are tried in a different court and sentenced to 720
days in prison, 180 days for each victim. He served his prison sentence but remains on probation until
December 10, 2023 and under strict supervision with a curfew.
