Shocking Blue est un groupe rock nerlandais rendu clbre entre autres par la chanson Venus, reprise plus tard
par le groupe Bananarama avec autant de succs. Il se
distinguait par un son innovant pour l'poque, par les capacits de showman du guitariste Robbie van Leeuwen
(en) et par la voix de la chanteuse Mariska Veres.

Histoire

Le groupe fut form en 1967 par Robbie van Leeuwen,

ancien guitariste d'un autre groupe nerlandais, The Mo
tions, avec le batteur Cor van Beek, le bassiste Klaasje
van der Wal et le chanteur Fred de Wilde. Celui-ci fut
remplac un an plus tard par Mariska Veres et un des pre
miers singles de la nouvelle mouture du groupe fut Venus.
La chanson occupa la premire place des ventes en Belgique, en France, en Italie, en Espagne et en Allemagne,
avant de dcrocher la premire place aux tats-Unis en 2.2
1970.

Aprs quelques autres succs qui n'atteignirent pas la renomme mondiale (Never Marry a Railroad man, Ink

Pot, Hello Darkness, Mighty Joe), Robbie van Leeuwen

se montra de plus en plus frustr par les performances
du groupe dans les classements de ventes. Le groupe fut

dissous en 1974.
Leur titre Love Buzz fut repris par le groupe de grunge
amricain Nirvana sur Bleach, et sampl par le groupe
anglais The Prodigy dans la chanson Phoenix, tire de
l'album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. Le titre
Long and Lonesome Road (1969) a ociellement inspir la chanson Je suis fatigu du groupe ukrainien Quest
Pistols.
