4.0 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

4.1 Auxiliary steam system:

The source of supply for the auxiliary steam system will be from the following;
A. Auxiliary boiler
B. IP super heater outlet

4.1.1 Auxiliary steam from IP super-heater:

The steam from intermediate pressure (IP) super-heater supplied to auxiliary steam
header. The IP steam generated in the HRSG UNIT-11 and HRSG UNIT- 12 is
combined and supplied to the auxiliary steam header through the IP steam pipeline
(LBA20BR001). The each IP steam line can be isolated with check valve
(LBD20AA001) and motor operated isolation valve (LBD20AA041) provided at the
outlet of each IP extraction steam line by HRSG supplier.

Auxiliary steam flow from IP super heater is measured in the common header by the
flow nozzle (LBA20CF501) provided at the upstream of auxiliary steam control
station.

Auxiliary steam control station consists of high capacity control valve (LBA20AA071),
upstream and downstream isolation valves (LBA20AA001/002) with drain valves
(LBA20AA0401/402). Low capacity control valve (LBA20AA072), upstream and
downstream isolation valves (LBA20AA003/004) with drain valves
(LBA20AA0403/404).The low capacity control valve will be in service during normal
plant operation.

The high capacity control valve will be taken in to service for supply of auxiliary steam
to start other block from the running block. This avoids starting of auxiliary boiler for
every block start.

IP superheat steam source is isolated from the auxiliary steam header

(LBG10BR001) with a gate valve (LBA20AA005) from auxiliary steam header.

4.1.2 Auxiliary steam from auxiliary boiler:

Auxiliary steam boiler (2 x 100%) is common for block 1 and 2. The auxiliary steam
header is independent for each block with interconnection to supply auxiliary steam
from one block to the other block.
Projet N°. Client Rev Feuille Suit F.
KAIS 1 266,71 MW-site KIS EM 540 015 01 5 7

The steam from the auxiliary boiler will supply steam to auxiliary steam header
through motor operated header isolation valve (LBG01AA041).

4.1.3 Auxiliary steam to turbine gland seal system:

The auxiliary steam from auxiliary steam header will be supplied to turbine gland seal
steam system with electrical super heater (LBG20AH001) operating to rise the steam
temperature as per steam turbine steam seal system requirements (GEK 110856J).
A motor operated drain valve (MAW01AA441) is provided for warm up.

4.1.4 Auxiliary steam to SJAE:

Auxiliary steam line (LBG30BR001) will supply steam to steam jet hogging air ejector
and holding ejector. The auxiliary steam supply line to SJAE consists of header
isolation valve (LBG30AA001).

5.0 OPERATION PHILOSOPHY

5.1 Initial preparation

The following prerequisites must occur prior to initiating the system for start-up of
block:
A. Auxiliary boiler is available and online
B. HRSG is in available and online
C. Electrical super heater is available and online
D. The auxiliary steam system (LBG) is charged with steam at a sufficient pressure
and temperature.

5.2 System operation

A. During the unit cold start-up of the plant auxiliary steam would be supplied from
the auxiliary boiler for turbine gland seal system and steam jet hogging air
ejector. The gland steam temperature requirement is based on average of high
pressure (HP) and reheats (RH) bowl temperature. The optimum steam
temperature varies from 177 ºC to 371 ºC.

B. When one block is running the other block is can be started from the running
block. The piping and control valves in the auxiliary steam shall be designed
accordingly. During normal operation the low capacity control valve will be in

KAIS 1 266,71 MW-site KIS EM 540 015 01 6 7

service, during starting of the block or other block high capacity control valve will
be in service.

C. During warm start and hot start the source of steam supply for turbine gland seal
system and steam jet air ejector will be from IP super heater outlet through
auxiliary steam header. During this period electrical super heater is in operation
to raise the temperature of steam.

D. During normal operation steam for holding steam jet air ejector receives steam
from IP super heater outlet through auxiliary steam header.

6.0 INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL

6.1 Header pressure control

6.1.1 Normal operation:

During normal operation the header pressure is monitored by pressure transmitters

(LBG10CP101/102) and controls the pressure control valves (LBA20AA071/72) in
order to maintain the auxiliary steam header pressure at 12 barg. The pressure
control valves (LBA20AA071/72) will work on a split control range.

Pressure control valve (LBA20AA072) will be released to Auto after HRSG IP

superheater steam MOV (LBD20AA041) is open.

Pressure control valve (LBA20AA071) will be released to Auto if request for starting
other block is received and header isolation MOV (LBG01AA041) is open.

6.1.2 Startup operation:

During start up operation the header pressure is monitored by pressure transmitters

(10 LBG 10 CP 101/102) and provides control signal to auxiliary boiler control
system.
