The indefinite article refers to persons and objects not specifically

identified.
Eg:
a cat, some rats

We have to omit indefinite articles in the following cases.

Case 1 :
After the verb être = to be and the verb devenir = to become.
Eg :
Je suis indien = I am an Indian
Je suis Professeur = I am a professor.

Case 2 : After the exclamatory adjectives like

Quel, Quelle, Quels, Quelles

Eg :
Quel garçon intelligent!
What an intelligent boy.

Avoir= to have

I have a pen
J’ai un stylo

I do not have a pen

Je n’ ai pas un stylo (X)

Ne (n’)……pas = (not ) Do not/Does not)

Ne (n’)……..Pas de (d’) = Not any

Je n’ai pas de stylo – I do not have any pen ( Correct form)

Ne…… Pas = do …not

Ne …pas de (d’) = not any

Nous avons deux crayons

Nous n’ avons pas de crayons

Etre – to be

Je suis – iam
Tu es – you are
