The interaction of the language and socio-cultural variables such as: sex, age,
social classes...: students will become aware of socio-cultural restrictions upon the
use of language.
Cultural connotations of words and phrases: students will develop awareness that
cultural images are associated with common words such as proverbs, idioms...
Raising awareness about social conventions and social behaviour in specific
situations: students will understand that conventions constrain how people act in
common situations in the target culture.
Evaluating the culture: students will be able to make, evaluate and refine
generalities concerning the target culture.
Students will be able to locate and organise information about the target culture.
Claire Kramsch (1995) claims three-3 links or types of cultural content to discuss in the
classroom: universal links, national links, and local links
2-1-universal links: imply the culture that can be shared by various language speakers across
social and national boundaroies.
2-2-national links: refer to the cultures separated by the national boundaries such as English
culture, ..... (big “C” culture).
2-3-local links: are related to the culture expressed through the words and actions of everyday
speakers : in: everyday

It is believed that the integration of both target and native cultural is beneficial for learners.
Big “C” and little “c” cultures are both required in order to help learners gain an understanding of
the target culture.
