(a) Dialogue 1
John and Mary Smith and their two children are off to spend
their summer holidays in France. They drive off the ferry and a
policeman of the immigration service checks their documents.
Agent: Bonjour, monsieur. Votre passeport, s'il vous plait.
John Smith: Bonjour, monsieur. Voila mon passeport.
Agent: Merci, monsieur. Alors, vous etes bien John Smith?
John: Qui, monsieur. C'est bien !fa. Et voila ma femme et mes deux
enfants.
Agent: Bonjour, madame.
Mary: Bonjour, monsieur.
Agent: Vous restez combien de temps en France?
John: Trois semaines.
Agent: Tres bien, monsieur. Alors, voila votre passeport. Au revoir
et bon sejour.
John: Merci, monsieur. Au revoir.

(b) Dialogue 2 A I'Hotel At the Hotel

The family drive to Caen, where they are booked into a hotel.
John: Bonjour, monsieur. Je suis Monsieur Smith. Vous avez une
chambre pour ma famille.
Hotelier: Ah, oui! Bonjour, Monsieur Smith; bonjour, Madame
Smith.
Mary: Bonjour, monsieur. Et voila nos deux enfants, Catherine et
Robert.
Hotelier: Bonjour, les enfants. Alors, monsieur, vous restez trois
semaines, c'est bien !fa?
John: Qui, c'est !fa.

Hotelier: Tres bien, monsieur. Alors, c'est la chambre numero cinq.

Voila votre clef.
John: Merci, monsieur.
Hotelier: A bient6t, monsieur. Au revoir, madame.

(c) Dialogue 3
After settling in, the Smiths leave the hotel to call on Monsieur
Michel Lebrun, to whom they have been given a letter of
introduction by a friend. They call at his office and are first dealt
with by a secretary.
John: Pardon, madame. Est-ce que Monsieur Lebrun est la, s'il vous
plait? Je m'appelle John Smith.
Secretaire: Ah, oui, vous etes Monsieur Smith. Monsieur Lebrun est
la. Un moment, s'il vous plait.
(She buzzes and Monsieur Lebrun comes into the office.)
Lebrun: Bonjour, Monsieur Smith. Tres heureux de faire votre
connaissance.
John: Bonjour, Monsieur Lebrun. Je vous presente ma femme,
Mary, et nos deux enfants, Catherine et Robert.
Lebrun: Enchante, madame. Bonjour, les enfants. Eh bien, est-ce
que vous etes libres ce soir? Vous pouvez diner chez nous?
John: Avec plaisir.
Mary: Vous etes tres gentil.
Lebrun: Alors, a sept heures ce soir.
John: Merci bien, et au revoir, monsieur.
Lebrun: Au revoir, monsieur. Au revoir, madame. Au revoir, les
enfants. A bient6t.

(d) Dialogue 4
The Smiths turn up for supper at 7.00 pm, as invited. Monsieur
Lebrun opens the door.
Lebrun: Bonsoir, Monsieur Smith. Bonsoir, madame. Comment
allez-vous?
John: Tres bien, merci, monsieur. Et vous?
Lebrun: Bien, merci. Entrez, s'il vous plait. (He calls his wife) Nicole,
Monsieur et Madame Smith et les enfants sont la.
Madame Lebrun: Bonsoir, Monsieur Smith. Bonsoir, Madame
Smith.
John: Enchante, madame. Et voila nos enfants, Catherine et
Robert.
Madame Lebrun: Bonsoir, les enfants.
