THE THREE LITTLE PIGS

Il était une fois une maman cochon qui avait trois petits cochons. Elle les aimait
beaucoup, mais comme il n'y avait pas assez de nourriture pour qu'ils puissent tous
manger à leur faim, elle les a envoyé tenter leur chance dans le vaste monde.

very much, but there was not enough food for all of them to eat, so she sent them

mother.

down. At last he was so out of breath that he couldn't blow any more.

Mais le loup avait tellement envie de manger des côtelettes de porc... il ne voulait pas

But the wolf had such a craving to eat pork chops... he didn't want to give up! He
snuck around the back of the house and climbed onto the roof. "Now I'll get that pig,

Le loup s'est laissé glisser dans la grande cheminée en brique et a atterri... PLOUF!
Les fesses les premières dans la grande marmite de soupe du petit cochon... qui était
alors très chaude! Le loup a hurlé et a bondi hors de la marmite, puis est sorti en
courant de la maison et a dévalé la route, serrant très fort ses fesses brûlées.

The wolf let himself slide down the great brick chimney and landed ... PLOP! Bottom-
first into the little pig’s big pot of soup... which was now very hot! The wolf howled
and jumped out of the pot, then ran out of the house and hurtled down the road,
clutching his burnt bottom.

brique, et les a invité à partager un délicieux dîner de soupe aux fesses de loup.

The little pig called his mother and his two brothers on his brick mobile phone, and
invited them to share a delicious dinner of wolf-bottom soup.

La soupe aux fesses de loup était si savoureuse que bientôt tous les gens à cent
kilomètres à la ronde ont voulu attraper le loup et le faire s'asseoir dans leur soupe.
Le pauvre loup a dû s'enfuir très loin jusqu'à la sombre forêt profonde où il a pu vivre
en paix et dans le calme.

The wolf-bottom soup was so tasty that soon everybody within one hundred
kilometres wanted to catch the wolf and make him sit in their soup. The poor wolf
had to run far away to the deep dark forest where he could live in peace and quiet.

friends. Then runs into the street to warn everyone else.

Gérard mène tout le monde à travers le village, le long de la route, à travers le champ
et en haut d’une colline. Au sommet de la colline il y a une grande grotte sombre.

Gérard leads everyone through the village, down the road, across the field, and up a
hill. At the top of the hill there is a big, dark cave.

« Entrez ! Entrez ! » dit Gérard. « Il y a assez de place pour tout le monde ! Le ciel

"Come in! Come in!" says Gérard. "There is enough room for everybody! The sky won't

empty.

THE BIRD AND THE WHALE

Il était une fois un oiseau qui aimait une baleine. Et une baleine qui aimait un oiseau.

bird.

L’oiseau aimait le beau sourire de la baleine. Il aimait la façon gracieuse qu’elle avait

aimait le regarder planer dans le ciel.

The bird loved the whale's beautiful smile. He loved the gracious way she swam
through the water. The whale loved the bird's handsome white feathers. She loved

"One day, you can meet my family in the ocean," said the whale.

L’océan devint froid et toutes les baleines partirent vers des eaux plus chaudes.

But the world does not stop turning simply because a bird and whale fall in love.
Summer gave way to autumn, and autumn gave way to winter. The ocean became
cold, and all the whales left for warmer waters.

« Viensavec moi vers des eaux plus chaudes », dit la baleine. « C’est
un endroit formidable. Il y fait toujours chaud et il y a tellement
de poissons à manger. »

"Come with me to warmer waters," said the whale. "It’s a wonderful place. It is

"I love to eat fish," said the bird. "And I love you too. I will follow you anywhere. But

Mais bientôt il ne put plus respirer. Il retourna à la surface, à bout de souffle. Il essaya

But soon he could not breathe. He returned to the surface, gasping.

He tried to swim again and again, but he ran out of breath every time.

« Je ne pense pas qu’un oiseau puisse être une baleine », dit
l’oiseau. « Viens plutôt avec moi. Je vis sur les falaises. C’est un
endroit merveilleux. Le temps y est chaud et agréable, et tous les
matins tu peux regarder le soleil se lever. »

"I don't think a bird can be a whale," said the bird. "Come with me instead. I live on
the cliffs. It is a wonderful place. The weather is warm and pleasant, and you can
watch the sun rise every morning."

être un oiseau. »

"I love to watch the sun rise," said the whale. "And I love you too. I will follow you

"Like this!" said the bird. "Follow me!", and he flapped his wings and soared into the
sky.

« Je vole ! » rit-elle. « Je suis un oiseau ! »

“OK!" said the whale. She shut her eyes and flapped her fins, just like the bird. She
flapped her fins again and again, up and down. Water splashed everywhere.
"I'm flying!" she laughed. "I'm a bird!"

dans l’eau.
Elle essaya encore et encore de voler, mais elle n’y arrivait pas.

But when she opened her eyes, she was not soaring in the sky. She was still in the
water.
She tried to fly, again and again, but she could not do it.

nous vivre ensemble ? » dit l’oiseau.

"I don't think a whale can be a bird," said the whale.

"You don’t know how to fly and I don’t know how to swim. So where can we live
together?" said the bird.
"We will stay here — in the waves!" said the whale.

Mais l’oiseau secoua tristement la tête.

« Tu aimes nager profondément dans l’océan », dit-il. « C’est ce
que tu préfères. Tu ne seras jamais heureuse ici. »

But the bird shook his head sadly.

"You love to swim deep in the ocean," he said. "That is your favorite thing to do. You
will never be happy here."

La baleine soupira.
