Abstract: Urban areas have great potential for the implementation of microgrids based on photovoltaic
(PV) sources, thanks to the roofs of buildings. Tertiary buildings, whose consumption is mainly done
during the day, can consume a large part of this energy and contribute to the smoothing of the power
demand peaks of the grid public. In addition, local production, through a microgrid, can be better sized
to match the power required by the end-users, who, in turn, can more easily accept partial load
shedding. In this context, based on PV sources, the microgrid works in producer-consumer mode by
respecting the requirements of the power grid, via an intelligent interface. This interface, in
communication with the smart grid, with the end-user, and with metadata bases, is able to optimally
manage the power flows. The scientific question lies on the optimal management of energy in a context of
intermittent and uncertain production. Also, ensuring real-time data communication and coordination
with the energy costs optimization be new challenges and a new step towards the smart city.
