OBJECTIFS DE LA LEÇON
Je m'appelle Alexa, je suis française, j'habite à Londres en Angleterre, et je parle
anglais et français. Aujourd’hui c’est lundi, il fait beau et il fait chaud. Comment ça
va ? Et quel temps fait-il chez-vous ?

QUEL TEMPS FAIT-IL ?

This means 'What is the weather like?'

◦ il fait* beau - it is sunny

◦ il fait froid - it is cold
◦ il fait chaud - it is hot
◦ il pleut - it is raining
◦ il neige - it is snowing
◦ il y a* du soleil - it is sunny
◦ aujourd’hui, il fait… - today it is…
◦ aujourd’hui, il fait froid et il pleut - today it is cold and it is raining
◦ aujourd’hui, il fait chaud, il fait beau - today it is hot, it is sunny

* Please note that to describe the weather, we often use the verb faire (to do).
This verb will be covered in more detail later on in the course. Similarly, the
expression il y a (which means 'there is' or 'here are') will also be covered in a
supplementary video.

Please note that the definite article le (the) applies to masculine words, and
becomes l’ in front of an h or a vowel.

▸ C’est le samedi.
▹ It is Saturday.

C’EST VS CE SONT
c’est (it is, this is) and ce sont (these are, those are) are used to present
something or someone.

c’est should be used when referring to a singular noun:

◦ c’est mon anniversaire - it is my birthday

◦ c’est ma sœur - it is my sister
◦ c’est l’été - it is the summer

ce sont should be used when referring to a plural noun:

◦ ce sont mes chats - these are my cats

◦ ce sont mes sœurs - these are my sisters

To form an ordinal number, add -ième to the numbers, except for premier (first)

premier - first (masculine form) / première - first (feminine form)

sixième - sixth
septième - seventh
huitième - eighth
neuvième - ninth
dixième - tenth

Please note that second (masculine form) or seconde (feminine form) is also
used, but only where there are no more than 2 elements listed. If there are more
than 2 elements, then use deuxième.
