the Indo-European family. It descended from the Vulgar Latin of the Roman Empire, as did
all Romance languages. Its closest relatives are the other langues d'oïl—languages
historically spoken in northern France and in southern Belgium, which French (Francien)
largely supplanted. French is an official language in 29 countries across multiple continents
French. French is also one of six official languages used in the United Nations.[4] It is spoken
as a first language (in descending order of the number of speakers) in France; Canada
(especially in the provinces of Quebec, Ontario, and New Brunswick, as well as
other Francophone regions); Belgium (Wallonia and the Brussels-Capital Region); western
Switzerland (specifically the cantons forming the Romandy region); parts of Luxembourg;
parts of the United States (the states of Louisiana, Maine, New
Hampshire and Vermont); Monaco; the Aosta Valley region of Italy; and various
communities elsewhere.

Le français (français [fʁɑ̃sɛ] ou langue française [lɑ̃ɡ fʁɑ̃sɛːz]) est une langue
romane de la famille indo-européenne. Il est issu du latin vulgaire de
l'Empire romain, comme toutes les langues romanes. Ses parents les plus
proches sont les autres langues d'oïl - langues historiquement parlées
dans le nord de la France et dans le sud de la Belgique, que le français
( francien ) a largement supplanté. Le français est une langue officielle
dans 29 pays sur plusieurs continents
