X-ray equipment if not properly used may cause injury. Accordingly, the instructions herein contained should
be thoroughly read and understood by everyone who will use the equipment before you attempt to place this
equipment in operation. The General Electric Company, Medical Systems Group, will be glad to assist and
cooperate in placing this equipment in use.
Although this apparatus incorporates a high degree of protection against x-radiation other than the useful beam, no
practical design of equipment can provide complete protection. Nor can any practical design compel the operator to
take adequate precautions to prevent the possibility of any persons carelessly exposing themselves or others to
radiation.
It is important that everyone having anything to do with x-radiation be properly trained and fully acquainted with the
recommendations of the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements as published in NCRP Reports
available from NCRP Publications, 7910 Woodmont Avenue, Room 1016, Bethesda, Maryland 20814, and of the
International Commission on Radiation Protection, and take adequate steps to protect against injury.
The equipment is sold with the understanding that the General Electric Company, Medical Systems Group, its agents,
and representatives have no responsibility for injury or damage which may result from improper use of the equipment.
Various protective material and devices are available. It is urged that such materials or devices be used.

CERTIFIED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR STATEMENT


All electrical installations that are preliminary to positioning of the equipment at the site prepared for the equipment shall be
performed by licensed electrical contractors. In addition, electrical feeds into the Power Distribution Unit shall be performed
by licensed electrical contractors. Other connections between pieces of electrical equipment, calibrations, and testing shall
be performed by qualified GE Medical personnel. The products involved (and the accompanying electrical installations) are
highly sophisticated, and special engineering competence is required.

In performing all electrical work on these products, GE will use its own specially trained field engineers. All of GE’s electrical
work on these products will comply with the requirements of the applicable electrical codes.

The purchaser of GE equipment shall only utilize qualified personnel (i.e., GE’s field engineers, personnel of third-party
service companies with equivalent training, or licensed electricians) to perform electrical servicing on the equipment.

DAMAGE IN TRANSPORTATION

All packages should be closely examined at time of delivery. If damage is apparent, have notation “damage in
shipment” written on all copies of the freight or express bill before delivery is accepted or “signed for” by a General
Electric representative or a hospital receiving agent. Whether noted or concealed, damage MUST be reported to the
carrier immediately upon discovery, or in any event, within 14 days after receipt, and the contents and containers held
for inspection by the carrier. A transportation company will not pay a claim for damage if an inspection is not requested
within this 14 day period.

Call Traffic and Transportation, Milwaukee, WI (414) 827–3449 / 8*285–3449 immediately after damage is found. At
this time be ready to supply name of carrier, delivery date, consignee name, freight or express bill number, item
damaged and extent of damage.

Complete instructions regarding claim procedure are found in Section “S” of the Policy & Procedure Bulletins.

OMISSIONS & ERRORS

GE personnel, please use the GEMS CQA Process to report all omissions, errors, and defects in this documentation.
Customers, please contact your GE Sales or Service represenatives.

CAUTION

Do not use the following devices near this equipment. Use of these devices near this equipment could cause
this equipment to malfunction.

Devices not to be used near this equipment:

Devices which intrinsically transmit radio waves such as; cellular phone, radio transceiver, mobile radio transmitter,
radio–controlled toy, etc.

Keep power to these devices turned off when near this equipment.

Medical staff in charge of this equipment is required to instruct technicians, patients and other people who may be
around this equipment to fully comply with the above regulation.

SECTION 3 – INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

3-1 INSTALLING THE AURORA FOR HISPEED SERIES


Understand and follow the Safety Guidelines Manual.

3-1-1 Removing the ST1800


1. Turn OFF the OC main power.

2. Remove the following covers from the OC:

3. Remove seven screws, then slide out the SCSI bay.

4. Disconnect the following Seven cables from the ST1800 and discard them.

D Four serial cables between Rear CN2 (J3–J6) and ST1800

D One serial cable between Service key connector and ST1800

D One SCSI cable between CPU and ST1800

D One SCSI cable between NPSC Assy (J14) and ST1800

5. Disconnect the power cable from the AC1 on the AC PS Assy.

6. Remove the ST1800 bracket (with Power Supply) from the OC by unscrewing its 2 screws, remove the ST1800
Assy

7. Cut the tie–wraps holding the power supply to the ST1800 bracket.

NOTICE
Before touching any of the components, attach the wrist strap to your wrist and to the metal
part of the chassis.

1. Install the Aurora (Serial port expander; 2243265) into No.5 slot of the Nest Assy, then fix it using the screw
(N9408LK) shipped with this kit.

Install the support bracket to hold the aurora using the three screws (N9408LK).

2. Loosen the two fan mounting screws, then install the SP Assy bracket using their screws.

3. Install the SP Assy using the two screws (N9408ZX) shipped with this kit.

4. Clean any dirt off the attaching surface of the cable clamp (U0014AC), shipped with this kit, using alcohol and
attach the clamp onto the CPU.

5. Connect the SP Assy serial cable to the Aurora.

6. Connect the following new cables:

D Four serial cables between SP Assy (No.1 – No.4) and Rear CN2 panel (J3 – J6), 2247648

D One serial cable between SP Assy (No.5) and Service Key connector, 2219693–2

D One SCSI cable to the CPU SCSI terminal, 2247454

7. Connect the SCSI Cable (2247454) from the CPU to the NPSC J14.

8. Clamp the cables properly using the tie–wraps, shipped with this kit.

9. Cut the edge guard to two 315mm (12.4 in) pieces of the guard.

10. Apply a fast setting adhesive to the grooves of the edge guards, then install them to the OC center main frame
so that they are touched to the bottom frame of the OC.

11. Then set the serial cables between SP Assy and Rear CN2 to the back side of the center main frame.

3-2-1 Removing the ST1800


1. Turn OFF the OC main power.

2. Remove the front cover, rear cover, and left side cover.

3. Disconnect the following Seven cables from the ST1800 and discard them.

Remove the two Rear CN2 mounting bolts and pull out the board to access the connectors.

D One serial cable between Service key connector and ST1800:
Remove the four service connector mouting bolts and remove the two nuts to remove the serial cable from
the cover.

4. Disconnect the cables and power cable connectors from the ST1800 Serial Port Expander.

5. Cut the tie–wraps that hold the cables connected to the ST1800 Serial Port Expander.

6. Remove the ST1800 bracket from the OC by unscrewing its 4 screws, remove the ST1800 Assy.

NOTICE
Before touching any of the components, attach the wrist strap to your wrist and to the metal
part of the chassis.

1. Install the Aurora into No.5 slot of the Nest Assy, then fix it using the screw (N9408LK) shipped with this kit.

2. Install the SP Assy using the two screws (N9408HR) shipped with this kit.

3. Connect the SP Assy serial cable to the Aurora.

4. Connect the following new cables and hold them using tie–wraps:

the back side of the upper frame using the tie–waps.

5. Install the SCSI bay and OC covers in the reverse order of removal.

3-3 INSTALLING PATCH SOFTWARE


1. Power ON the main switch of the OC.

2. Approx. 30 seconds later the desktop menu and “Auto–Start” red window appears. Click on Cancel in the Auto–
Start window to enter the desktop menu.

Note
If you miss clicking the button, press Shift + 7 in the next black screen.

3. Insert the CD–ROM (Patch Software 4.14) into the CD–ROM drive of the OC.

4. On the desktop menu, click on Install Software located on the upper right of the screen.

5. “Do you install software from CD–ROM?” message appears. Click on Yes.

6. “Do you install selected Patch?” message appears. Click on Yes.


The patch installation procedures are automatically started.

7. Click on OK in response to “Installation Successful. xxxxxxx”.

8. After completion of the patch installation, Click on Shell located on the upper right of the screen.

9. Type the following to eject the CD–ROM.

Patch Verification
1. Click on List S/W Package.
2. Click on Patch.
3. Verify that information for the patch installed are displayed. (Example)

Reconfigration
Before performing reconfiguration, the system must be rebooted again.

1. On the desktop menu, click on Shutdown.


Some test programs run. The NO button to be displayed is clicked.

2. Verify that the message “Okay to power off the system now. Press any key to restart.” appears.

3. Click on Restart.

4. Approx. 30 seconds later the desktop menu and “Auto–Start” red window appears. Click on Cancel in the Auto–
Start window to enter the desktop menu.

Note
If you miss clicking the button, press Shift + 7 in the next black screen.

5. On the desktop menu, click on Reconfig located on the upper right of the screen.
This System configuration screen appears.

6. Click on Hardware.
This Hardware setting screen appears.

7. Select Aurora for Serial Expander.

8. Click on Accept.
The system is rebooted. It takes approx. 7 minutes.
