Joe Biden has tried to make his administration more diverse – this shows his interest in the issue. A CNN analysis
showed that 50% of people of colour were elected at cabinet positions. But the country is still racially divided. There
are more and more demonstrations, which shows the people’s anger : the trickle down effect has not fully worked
yet.
Step 2 – more synthetic + more complex in terms of voc and structures (B2+)
Joe Biden has endeavoured to increase diversity in his administration – showing his growing awareness on the issue. A
CNN analysis hence reported that 50% of people of colour were nominated at cabinet positions. Yet the country
remains racially polarized. The increasing demonstrations highlight the people’s resentment : the trickle down effect
has not fully worked yet.

1. Coming/going
Pour dire « aller » en anglais, on a le choix entre deux possibilités : come ou go. L’usage dépend de la position
géographique des personnes concernées.
2. Borrowing / lending
• To borrow veut dire emprunter.
On le construit ainsi : to borrow something from somebody.
Ex. I’d like to borrow a thousand dollars. J’aimerais emprunter mille dollars.
• To lend veut dire prêter.
On peut le construire de deux façons : to lend somebody something ou to lend something to somebody.
Ex. Could you lend me your bike? > Pourrais-tu me prêter ton vélo ?
3. Hearing/listening
Hearing veut dire « entendre » et listening veut dire « écouter ».
• To hear se construit ainsi : « hear + complément ». Il implique un acte involontaire. Ex. I heard them fighting >
Je les ai entendus se disputer.
• To listen se construit ainsi : « listen + to + complément ». Il implique un acte volontaire. Ex. I listened to them
Ex. : I saw him eat the last cupcake veut dire « Je l’ai vu manger le dernier cupcake » et sous-entend que vous l’avez vu
Ex. : I saw him eating the last cupcake veut dire « Je l’ai vu en train de manger le dernier cupcake », et sous-entend
