des nouveaux vélos à assistance électrique peuvent être loués. Dans la région d'Artois, par exemple, les touristes
peuvent emprunter des circuits découvertes sur des thématiques tels que la Grande Guerre. Les vélos sont faciles

heritage didn’t feature at all during the recent presidential campaign.

Heritage is part of the wealth of a country and the safeguarding of small and medium towns from the expansion of
major metropolitan centres is a priority. The implementation of a comprehensive policy is necessary in order that all
ministerial departments work together. Together, let us place the fight against the decline of our towns at the heart
of public debate.

Writing activity.
This task serves as general preparation for the Paper 2 film and literature exam. As the activity does not directly
correspond to the exam task, teachers may wish to decide on their own marking system.
This task brings together different strands from the unit. Students should be encouraged to weigh up both sides of
the argument, perhaps quoting the views of others, before justifying their own opinion. They might consider the
political side of the protection of heritage, the costs, the new wave of young people wishing to help protect it, and
the benefits for society such as increased tourist revenue. Students could be encouraged to look up the
organisation ‘Club du vieux Manoir’ (featured in activity 4).

Speaking activity.
To reflect the marks available for each stimulus card discussion in the exam, teachers might mark this task out
of 25, evaluating students on fluency and conversation skills, quality of language, interpretation of the stimulus
material, and knowledge and understanding of the sub-theme.
Student’s own answer
In line with the exam speaking test, the first question targets comprehension of the stimulus material. Students will
not be expected to mention every detail but should give a summary of the key point(s) given. The second and third
bullet points invite the student to express and justify her/his own opinion. In a live exam the student would also
need to incorporate specific evidence from a French-speaking country. For example, in answer to the third bullet
point they might draw on information gathered from a newspaper article on the importance of protecting heritage for
tourism and for giving opportunities to those who wish to carry out such voluntary work. They may counter that with
the huge costs involved and the potential to impede development projects.
