THE TRUMP-KIM SUMMIT

On June 12, an historical summit took place between American president Donald Trump and
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, on Sentosa Island, in Singapore. The two men signed a joint
Singapour
statement in which North Korea commits to “complete denuclearization of the Korean
Peninsula.” Donald Trump also agreed to North Korea’s “freeze for freeze” demand − the U.S.
will halt joint military exercises with South Korea in exchange for Pyongyang’s freezing missile
and nuclear tests. Many political experts said that the summit was not a big success for Trump,
who made concessions but got no specific commitments in return. At the same time, they acknowledged that war was
finally off the table. After the meeting, Trump vehemently sang Kim Jong-un’s praises in the media: “He’s got a great
personality. He’s a funny guy, a tough guy, he’s very smart, he’s a great negotiator. He loves his people.”

US homeland security secretary, Kirstjen Niels-

2,300 children from their parents at the border
with Mexico. Last month, Kirstjen Nielsen de-
fended the policy to reporters at the White
House. “We have to do our job. We will not apol-

from Trump’s own circle (including the First

DENVER, THE MILE HIGH CITY

Colorado National Monument, established in 1911 thanks to John Otto, is one of the state’s
most impressive landscapes, covering 32 square miles of naturally sculpted rock. The
plateau rises over 2,000 feet above the Grand Valley of the Colorado River, and offers
stunning views of colourful sheer-walled canyons and rock sculptures. Colorado National

On June 12th, Greece and the Republic of Macedonia announced that they finally
came to an agreement regarding the name of the latter country: it will be re-

30 years. Greece, which has a province called Macedonia, tried to stop the Repub-

claiming that it hid territorial claims against the Greek province. Thanks to this

It is based on a true story, and set in the early
1970s. Ron Stallworth (played by John David
Washington) becomes the first African
American officer in the Colorado Springs Police
Department, and his arrival is met with
hostility by several of his colleagues. He
decides to try to infiltrate the local Ku Klux
Klan in order to denounce their criminal

through conversations they have over the

THE GUARDIAN NEIL STEINBERG

THE MEANING
OF A SMILE

Joplin ! (Par Servane de Pastre, stagiaire Vocable)
