DESCRIPTION

The PR1626/60 is an intrinsically safe interface unit. It has been designed to interface load cells situated in a hazardous (Ex) area with a weighing indicator/transmitter situated in a safe area. It is classified to be an associated apparatus (with intrinsically safe circuits) and complies with class [EEx ib] IIB and IIC. The Certificate of Conformity has the PTB-Number Ex-91.C.2098 X, it is to be found under paragraph 8. The unit can be used for weighing applications as well for all other applications which require this kind of intrinsically safe interfacing. This is achieved by use of double provided current and voltage limiters in the supply circuit and barriers in the measuring and sense circuits of the PR1626/60.

The unit provides the intrinsically safe interfacing of: - 1 voltage output for the supply of e.g. load cells situated in a hazardous (Ex)-area, - 1 measuring voltage input from the hazardous (Ex)-area, - 1 sense voltage input from the hazardous (Ex)-area. This is achieved by use of double provided current and voltage limiters in the supply circuit and barriers in the measuring and sense circuits of the PR1626/60. In addition the PR1626/60 has an approval in conjunction with Sartorius indicators: PR1612/02, PR1613, PR1713, PR5210, PR5510, PR5610 & PR5710.

Connections
All screw terminals of the blue coloured block are provided for the connections to the Exarea. All screw terminals of the black coloured block are provided for the connections to the safe area. The screw terminals for interfacing and terminal PE are provided for 4mm2 at maximum. The screens of the cables are to be connected on the shortest way to the respective screw terminals. In intrinsically safe lines with a cable length of 50 m, the screen of the cables may only be connected at one end to the potential equalization line. In non-intrinsically safe lines the screen of the cables may generally be connected only at one end to the potential equalization system (see sketch below).

To avoid any danger in the event of wires becoming loose and moving into the intrinsically safe connection area of the module causing short circuiting, all wires of the safe side have to be secured together in a cable harness.

INSTRUCTION MANUAL 4.2.1 Potential equalization

PR1626/60

According to VDE 0165/6.80, potential equalization is to be ensured within an intrinsically safe installation, especially in hazardous areas of zone 0 and 1. Otherwise impermissible sparking can occur between the particular conducting parts. Therefore terminal PE of the PR1626/60 must be connected to the potential equalization system, which has to be installed and earthed according to VDE 0100 and its part 540, or/and acc. to respective local regulations.

SETTINGS

Opening and setting of the instrument may only be done after having switched-off the supply voltage, and by observing the instructions as given in paragraph 2.

5.1

Opening the instrument

Upon delivery from the factory the instrument is not completely closed. Sliding of the electronic part into the housing will be prevented by a small sponge, which only has to be removed after setting and connecting the instrument. When closed, and one needs to get access to the inside, the instrument must be opened carefully by spreading out slightly the side parts of the housing, without breaking them. This can be done by using e.g. a small screwdriver. As soon as the little plastic noses become released pull out the upper part.

After opening, the Power Supply Unit (PCB 1), and the Interface Unit (PCB 2) become visible. Both PCBs are fixed to each other by means of 3 bolts and interconnected via flat cable connection.
