Etat de l’art des statistiques de
l’environnement
• Les statistiques de l’environnement sont pluridisciplinaires, transversales, et
impliquent de nombreuses parties prenantes, acteurs et producteurs.
• Insuffisance de statistiques de l’environnement ponctuelles et fiables à travers
le monde.
• Le développement des statistiques de l’environnement a avancé au cours des
dernières décennies, bien que de façon très hétérogène.
• Les statistiques économiques, sociales et démographiques ont été produites
régulièrement sur des périodes de temps plus longues.
• Les statistiques de l’environnement sont un domaine émergeant et encore sous-
développé du développement durable, ce qui limite les capacités de suivi et
d’évaluation.
• En attendant, la demande de statistiques de l’environnement robustes ne cesse
de croître.
• Les ODD comprennent de nombreux objectifs liés à l’environnement.
Les statistiques de l’environnement: le pilier
le plus faible du développement durable
• Des trois piliers du développement durable, le suivi et l’évaluation
des progrès vers la durabilité de l’environnement est le plus faible.
• Notre capacité à informer sur la durabilité de l’environnement est
sévèrement réduite par la production insuffisante de statistiques de
l’environnement.
• Pour informer sur le développement durable, certaines données
environnementales doivent être collectées et des statistiques
doivent être produites régulièrement, comme un élément clé des
statistiques officielles.
• Les statistiques peuvent être traitées pour produire des indicateurs
qui appuient des objectifs environnementaux et de développement
durable au niveau national, ainsi que les ODD.

L’Ensemble de statistiques de base de l’environnement

Les statistiques de l’environnement et les ODD
• Le domaine de l’environnement est étendu dans les ODD: la
dimension environnementale du développement durable est
largement approfondie dans les objectifs sur les océans et les
ressources marines, les écosystèmes et la biodiversité, la
dégradation du sol et la désertification, et est aussi
généralisée / intégrée dans tous les autres objectifs. [L’OMD 7
n’intégrait que partialement la dimension environnementale]
• Presque la moitié des cibles des ODD exigent des
statistiques de l’environnement afin d’être en mesure de
compiler leurs indicateurs et de permettre un suivi régulier
des progrès.
• Le besoin d’amélioration des données et des statistiques pour
suivre les progrès des ODD et le besoin associé de
renforcement des capacités statistiques sont récurrents pour
les pays en développement.
Renforcer les statistiques de l'environnement pour le suivi des ODD
a été discuté dans un événement en marge de la Commission de statistique le 2
Mars 2015 à New York.
Objectif 11 Faire en sorte que les villes et les établissements humains soient ouverts à tous,
sûrs, résilients et durables

Objectif 13 Prendre d’urgence des mesures pour lutter contre les changements climatiques et
leurs répercussions
Objectif 14 Conserver et exploiter de manière durable les océans, les mers et les ressources

Objectif 15 Préserver et restaurer les écosystèmes terrestres, en veillant à les exploiter de
façon durable, gérer durablement les forêts, lutter contre la désertification, enrayer
et inverser le processus de dégradation des sols et mettre fin à l’appauvrissement
de la biodiversité
