1.3.3 - Sous-vitesse
1.3.3 Underfrequency
The circuit configuration includes a strap and a potentiometer.
Depending on the position of the strap ST1, it operates
either in the U/f or the U/2f mode (see graphs below).
The LAM(*) potentiometer enables the operator to cause, in addition to this operation, a sudden fall in voltage
to an adjustable value as soon as the frequency falls below the selected under-frequency threshold.

2.2 - Regulation

The output from this PID is fed into a control circuit for
the MOSFET transistor which generates pulses with a
fixed frequency but a cyclically variable ratio depending
on the PID output voltage.
The regulator power stage includes a three-phase rectifier which can be fed either at 100V single-phase or 63V
three-phase. The output from this diode bridge is filtered
before feeding the alternator exciter field through the
MOSFET power transistor.
The output from this diode bridge can be short circuited
by a thyristor in order to cause one or more fuses to blow
in the event of protections action.
A dual supply taken from the sensing input AND the power input provides uninterrupted supply to the control
electronics, even if the sensing is lost.

IMPORTANT NOTE :
This protection does not replace
normal voltage protection on the installation.
circulation.
The regulator allows the reactive load applied to the alternators to be equalized and reduces their circulation
currents. This is done as follows.

It should be noted that in this case the difference between the curves is not adjustable. However this operation enables operation without voltage droop at a given

ATTENTION : DANS CES DEUX TYPES DE FONCTIONNEMENT TOUT LE PRINCIPE REPOSE SUR
UNE COMPOSITION VECTORIELLE TENSION-COURANT. IL EST DONC IMPERATIF QUE LE RACCORDEMENT SOIT EFFECTUE EN SUIVANT RIGOUREUSEMENT LE SCHEMA DE BRANCHEMENT TRANSMIS AVEC LA MACHINE.
IMPORTANT NOTE : ON BOTH TYPES OF OPERATION THE WHOLE PRINCIPLE IS BASED ON THE
VOLTAGE-CURRENT ADDITION : CONSEQUENTLY
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE CONNECTION SHOWN
ON THE WIRING DIAGRAM SUPPLIED WITH THE
MACHINE SHOULD BE ADHERED TO ABSOLUTELY.
Rgulateur
R200
AVR
R200
(R212/R222)
The principle is to operate as in the previous paragraph
but becoming insensitive to variations in network voltage.
To do this the regulator voltage reference is replaced by
a voltage reflecting the machine voltage and the difference is calculated between this voltage and the detection
voltage which takes into account current. This switching
is controlled by a relay contact which is external to the
regulator and which in the installation, takes into consideration the position of the various circuit breakers between the network and the alternator and should be closed when, and only when the network is physically present at the alternator terminals.
3 - INSTALLATION
3 - INSTALLATION
3.1 - Montage
3.1 - Fitting
infrieure 1 ohm).
AVR
R200
Also, since this input is used for the vector addition during parallel operation its polarity must be in conformity
with the circuit diagram supplied with the machine.
CT parallel operation input :
1 and 2 of CN2
The parallel operation CT should be dimensioned for a
1Amp, 1VA, Class 1 secondary side. It should give the
image of the machine current (see connection diagram
on pages 8 to 11).
Polarity of the outputs from this CT must be adhered to if
not, excessive currents are to be avoided on coupling.
External P.F. potentiometer input (R212/R222) or voltage drop (R211/R222) :
3, 4 and 5 of CN2
This optional external potentiometer is switched in by
opening strap ST3 on the regulator. It should be 4.7 or 5
KOhms, 1 Watt and be connected as a variable resistance (with the cursor connected to 4 of CN2) with twin core
shielded wire with the shielding connected only to terminal 5 of CN2. Preset it at half its value which will give
a P.F. of about 0.8 lagging coupled to the network.
External Voltage potentiometer input :
5, 6 and 7 of CN2
This optional external potentiometer is switched in by
opening strap ST2 on the regulator. It should be 1
KOhm, 1 Watt and be connected as a variable resistance (with the cursor connected to 7 of CN2) with twin core
shielded wire with the shielding connected only to terminal 5 of CN2.
IMPORTANT NOTE : THIS POTENTIOMETER SHOULD
BE SET TO MAXIMUM RESISTANCE (MINIMUM VOLTAGE) BEFORE STARTING TO AVOID DANGER OF
TRIGGERING OVERVOLTAGE PROTECTION.
P.F. regulation control input (R212/R222) :
8 and 9 of CN2
This contact is designed for a dry contact which will
transport current of a few milliamps under low voltage,
and should be closed if and only if the machine is physically coupled to the network.
In some cases in environments containing a lot of interference, it may be necessary to shield this connection as well. Shield connected to terminal 5 of
CN2.
Field current output :
5 and 6 of CN1
These outputs should be connected to + and - of the machine exciter (take care about polarity).
The connection wires should have a cross sectional area
of 2.5 mm2 or more if the distance from the regulator to
the machine is long (overall wiring resistance in both directions <1 ohm).

When a regulator is mounted and prewired into the alternator it is recommended that the first tests should be carried out in the delivery condition. Once these tests have
been carried out it can be connected to potentiometers
and/or external contacts in accordance with the wiring
diagram supplied with the machine.
In the case of a replacement regulator supplied by the
service department it can be necessary to readjust the
stability and regulator current limitation adjustments.
The easiest way is to position the potentiometers in the
same position as on the original regulator.
For a regulator fitted in control panel it is essential to
check the connections to the machine and especially the
voltage and current inputs (CN1 8, 9 or 10 and CN2 1
and 2) and the boost input polarity.
The only adjustments to be carried out are the adjustment of the rated voltage required and the voltage droop
/ P.F. for parallel operation.
The stability potentiometer (P5) may be readjusted to optimize the response to load transients (can cause oscillation if adjusted too far).

Connect the regulator like above and close all the straps
(external potentiometers for instance).
The lamp must be "light on" when the "VOLTAGE" potentiometer turned maximum clockwise and light off
when it is turned maximum anti-clockwise.
The regulator is faulty if the lamp is light on or light off in
all cases.

6.3 - Booster
The booster is a compound circuit connected to the regulator when large accessories must be started or when
the machine has to supply a permanent shortcircuit current (usually 3 In). It consists of three CTs (one on each
phase) feeding to a rectifier bridge. The direct current
thus obtained is added through a one-way diode to the
field current supplied by the regulator. Since its current is
directly proportional to the stator current it may in some
cases supply to much current in relation to the machines
requirement (e.g. capacitive loads).
In this case it is necessary to use a booster monitor.
