GENERAL
• The engine useshydraulic valve tappets that eliminate manual valve adjustments.
• The hydraulic tappets have de-foaming chambers. Before assembling. fill the chambers with clean engine oil.
• Do not turn the camshaft before installing camshaft holders and filling the de-foaming chambers with engine oil, when voi,
adjust the valve timing.
• Whenever the camshaft is removed. bleed air from the tappets thoroughly (See page 6·18).
• Lubricate the camshaft journals and cam lobes with molybdenum disulfied grease for initial lubrication .
• The camshaft holders are identified by the respective markings (IN R: intake right, IN L: intake left. EX R: exhaust right,

NOTE:
• Check the fluid level often while bleeding
the brakes to prevent air from being pump

• Use only DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealed
container.
• Do not mix brake fluid types and never
reused the contaminated fluid which has
been pumped out during brake bleeding,
because this will impair the efficiency of
the brake system.

SERVICE INFORMATION
GENERAL
• Some wires have different colored bands around them near the connector. These are connected to other wires which cor
respond with the band color.
• All plastic plugs have locking tabs that must be released before disconnecting, and must be aligned when reconnecting.
• The following color codes used are indicated throughout this section and on the wiring diagram.
• To isolate an electrical failure, check the continuity of the electrical path through the part. A contin-uity check -c~~~~~ally- .
be made without removing the part from the motorcycle. Simply disconnect the wires and connect a continuity tester or
volt-ohmmeter to the terminals or connections.
• A continuity tester is useful when checking to find out whether or not there is an electrical connection between the two
points. An ohmmeter is needed to measure the resistance of a circuit, such as when there is a specific coil resistance involv
ed, or when checking for high resistance caused by corroded connections.
