1.0 SCOPE
This procedure applies to minimum requirement for Post Weld Heat Treatment of carbon
steel and alloy steel (P-Nos. 1, 4, 5A and 15E) piping by means of electric resistance heating
system to release weld stress for RDPP Project
2.0 REFERENCE
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
His responsibility will include all aspects of general piping arrangement, piping layout,
heat treatment and piping materials.
3.4 QA/QC Manager
The QA/QC Manager shall carry out inspection functions responsible according to
procedure.
He shall satisfy himself that all heat treating operations required have been correctly
performed.
3.5 PWHT Operator
Personnel will be involved in carrying out heat treatment job based on qualification and
job requirement. The PWHT Operator shall be responsible for identifying the necessity
of personnel involved in activities influencing quality.

Thermocouple must be attached within 25mm from weld joint of Mat-Type Heater
Attachment points on the weld reinforcement shall be dressed by light grinding of the
surface to allow good thermocouple contact.

6.3.4 Pipe Diameter equal and less than 2 inch (Elbow & Tee)
6.4.4 For weld in which the PWHT temperature has dropped below the minimum
holding temperature without exceeding the specified cooling rate, actions shall be
initiated to restart the heat treatment as soon as possible.
6.4.5 The weldment shall be reheated at a rate not to exceed that specified by the
code or specification and the holding temperature re-established and kept for the
entire holding time.
6.4.6 Interrupted PWHT shall be noted and explained on the charts and records.
6.4.7 The weldment shall be held at the following temperature range for the period of
time specified in the attached table.
Refer to table PWHT & Pre-Heat Requirement (By ASME B31.1 Table 132)
(Attachment #1).
6.4.8 During the holding period, holding temperature shall be within the temperature
range required throughout the portion of the work piece being heated.
6.4.9 Cooling to 315°C shall be performed at a controlled rate which shall not exceed
the values indicated for heating.
6.4.10 From 315°C, the work piece may be cooled in still air (ATM).
6.6 Documentation
6.6.1 The PWHT temperature chart shall be identified by using the stamp
(Attachment #3), and all PWHT records shall be retained until the project is
complete and then shall become part of the quality assurance records.
6.6.2 PWHT records shall be identified by project name, unit number, line number,
weld number, location & number of thermocouples (demonstrated by a
sketch), time and date of starting, signature of operator and verification of QC
inspector.
6.6.3 After verifying that PWHT operations have been satisfactorily completed, the
Projet RAS DJINET 1131,1 MW-Site N°. Client Rev Feuille De
QC inspector shall, on a regular basis, submit original PWHT Chart and Heat
Treatment Plan/Record to contractor’s welding inspector for review.
