Sujet : The Basel IV regulation in relation with Modigliani-Miller
Description :
Through time, banks face a lot of increasing regulation to prevent crisis, bankruptcy, and so on. One of
them is the Basel IV regulation which will be implemented in 2023 and set pressure on the capital of
banks. Like her predecessor, Basel IV asks banks to follow several ratios but especially to maintain a
given level of capital. Nevertheless, in 1958, Modigliani-Miller asserted that the firm value in a perfect
market does not depend on her way of financing. This subject will aim to analyze the link between the
Modigliani-Miller theorem and the Basel IV requirements, to see whether the financing sources of a bank
have an impact on their market value.
