2.4 INSTALLATION
Remember that in order to respect the electrical safety standards related to protection of operators against
indirect contact, the supply of power to the instrument must be via a power socket fitted with a protection
device ensuring automatic cut-off in the case of an insulation fault.
A supply fitted with a circuit breaker of the correct rating complies with this requirement.
2.6 START-UP
If your freezer is fitted with the battery option, before starting the freezer put the fuse in place at the back
of the freezer.
When starting the instrument the display shows the chamber temperature, the visual and audible alarm is
activated.
During the cooling procedure the freezer will display the chamber temperature.
It takes about 6 hours to cool down the freezer from +20°C to -60°C

Use gloves to handle frozen samples inside the freezer. Unprotected hands may get serious frost injuries.
Power should be supplied only by an independant circuit and breaker from the freezer. Do not use a
common power supply with other electrical appliances.
All servicing on the cooling system must be carried out by a Service Engineer having the
qualification to service Cascade Refrigerant Systems.
PowerFREEZE™ is made of :
- An anodized aluminium plate for the top of the shelve
- A perforated aluminium plate for the bottom of the shelve
- An aluminium cooling coil
To ensure maximum performance of the freezer, PowerFREEZE™ has to remain clean.
As soon as dirt appears on the aluminium :
- Clean, the different aluminium parts using warm water mixed with soap using a nylon brush or a sponge.
- Wash the different part with clean water
- Dry the different part with a drying cloth.

To ensure the maximum efficiency of heat removal at the condensor, you must clean the filter regularly.
The filter is fixed on the grid located at the bottom of the freezer. Pull out the grid to gain access to the
filter. Clean the filter with water or compressed air. Place the filter again on the front face of the
compressor compartment.
Dust and grease that settle on the grid of the condensor reduce the area of the heat exchange, thus
resulting in loss of power and jamming of the motor. Regular cleaning of the grid is necessary.
To access to the condensor grid, pull out the front face of the compressor compartment. Using
compressed air, clean the front of the condensor grid thoroughly, particularly between the blades
The frost that accumulates on the door seal impairs it’s airtightness. This results in an increase of the frost
inside the chamber and difficulty in keeping the chamber at the desired temperature.
Clean the walls with a surface disinfectant (alcool 70%, glutaraldehyde 2%). Avoid chlorinated solutions
which might damage the interior of the freezer.
See chapter 6.3 on cleaning of aluminium parts.
Changing of the fuse must not be carried out by the operator but by a qualified engineer who will
diagnose the fault before replacing the fuses.
