one. When a person start a new story the flower will give him/her a sort of gift: a small clip as a sign of participation to the teller community. This sign enables members of Kannelmki district to recognize each other within and outside the neighborhood and thus encourage them to interact. The park installation will be a memories diary, where to create indirect interactions with participants. These first contacts can become new friendships, thanks to the voice recording, which allows people to.

THE PLACES OF INTERACTIONS: THE PARK AND THE STATION

Indirect and slow interactions: telling your story in the park.

The park closed to the river is a well known place in the district, where every year some festivals and activities are happening. The inhabitants like to walk there and the feeling they described are freedom, relax, calm,. These mental conditions have been taken as good starting point to create a slow interaction installation, where participate freely according to personal feelings, modalities and attitudes.

DISCUSSION

Becoming an active citizen needs own activity and participation. Inhabitants own participation creates dialogue and trust for each other. Active people create active neighborhood and this imply social wellbeing. A good neighborhood is an active, lively place. Through inhabitants own activities the neighborhood begins to be a place of trust, joy, sharing and experimenting good everyday life with others, which increases peoples social wellbeing. When the design brief is open and the problem area very abstract, it has to be approached through collaborative and experimental way. A good neighborhood and social wellbeing were typically this kind of abstract and not easy to reach design problems. These needed an open dialogue process between students and between students and local inhabitants. The method, a collaborative and

exploratory learning resulted interesting design briefs and design experimentations, shared knowledge and deep understanding. While aiming for participation and dialogue designers can create processes, systems and moreover design experimentations to collect insight information, to include locals in the design process and to test ideas and collect feedback. Exploring Kannelmki through experimentations a understanding of a good neighborhood and the meaning of participation in social wellbeing were gained. Designers can work in a real life context and gain insights into the problem areas as well as create opportunities to activate local people to increase social wellbeing through own participation and open dialogue.

SOCIAL WELLBEING IN A GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD

Wellbeing can be dived at least into two different levels; individuals own capacities and own identity with connection to community. While students were constructing their understanding for social wellbeing, they separated these two areas and together these areas affects into the social wellbeing. One student separated the social wellbeing into three different areas. One was the community aspect and it includes et al. sharing knowledge, experiences and skills and this needs solidarity and empathy towards others. The second area is identity, which includes et al. persons skills, capacities and memories. The third one is local development, which includes social cohesion and mutual respect aspects. Interactions and social relationships are quite fundamental for social wellbeing. One student described the social wellbeing in the suburban area personal experiences and knowledge. Social wellbeing means ensuring the residents a sense of security and of belonging to the place where they live. This goal may be pursued promoting iniatives for the interaction between people and sharing of knowledge linked to different cultures. The feeling of socially integration grows from trust and the feeling that people are living in a safe neighborhood (Keys 1998). People that feel socially integrated volunteer to maintain their neighborhood and therefore own commitment, own engagement and participation lead to feeling that person is living in a nice and safe neighborhood. Inhabitants feel that their actions are meaningful to the neighborhood and further these attitudes and actions lead to social wellbeing. The feeling of belonging to the community and neighborhood is important for ones own mental health. Healthy individuals feel that they are a part of society (Keys 1998,122). Therefore own participation.

LEARNING PROCESS IN A SOCIAL WELLBEING CONTEXT

While design students were approaching social wellbeing in a neighborhood area during the course, one primary aspect was that the learning and experimentation has to happen in a real life context outside the University building. The intensive workshop was organized in the middle of the suburban area Kannelmki as an open workshop and exhibition simultaneously. In this way the designers learning process was open towards the community and interaction with local inhabitants were possible. Moreover the students were surrounded by the real context they

in a small group, in a framed cognitive community and through problem solving it aims for shared knowledge and understanding (Hkkinen & Arvaja 1999). In the middle of collaborative learning is the idea that through common actions the new knowledge and shared deep understanding of the problem areas are created together (Soini 2001). Exploratory learning process aims to understand deeper the problem and additionally it uses descriptive explanations of the phenomena under study. Exploratory learning process happens

First of all, to show and share the project and the achieved results in the district, could be planned an interactive artistic installation in the Art Museum of Helsinki, where the visitors can be a active part of the exhibition process. Furthermore the project could be re-proposed as base for cohesive projects in other districts of Helsinki. This could be a possibility for the Helsinki city

LESSON LEARNED SO FAR ALONG THE CO-DESIGN PROCESS :

The les possibles experience inside the Tango (AH-DEsign) project shown the fundamental role of a co-design approach while designing Product Service System innovations dedicated to a specific

and exploit need and potentialities from the field. Furthermore the experimentations made with the Kannelmki inhabitants highlighted the need of approaches and skills as well as methods and tools to give to the need of approachesand skills as well as methods and tools to give to the final users an active role in the co-design process. Some activities have been made efficient, some others were difficult to be accessed without specific design knowledge. About the les project the use of the voice as predominant channel, has a value in itself, but still need a test ground where first confirmation and feedbacks are expected, and further investigation
