Cet inoubliable portraitphysique et moral, qui fait
apparaîtredevantnous la personne du moine avec un si
puissantrelief,ne note, on le voit, que deux traitsde son
visage : la bouche, largementfendue,et le nez bien sail-
lant. Mais on doit observerque c'est surtoutle dernier
qui intéressaitl'écrivain, car dans le même livre, au
chapitrexl, intituléPourquoy les moynessont refuy^ du
monde, etpourquoy les ungs ont le ne' plus grand que les
aultres, au cours de l'entretien qui se déroule, chez
Grandgousier, entre ce dernier, son fils Gargantua et
leurs compagnons, Gymnaste interpelle soudain Frère
Jeanen ces termesquelque peu familiers:
