figure 11 ci-dessous.

sommaire
1a. Oedometric loading of a rock block, which also corresponds to the burial of a geomaterial
under laterally confined conditions (folder: 1a Uniaxial strain - oedometric test, elastic and
MC).
1b. The same for exhumation/unloading of the pre-stressed material (folder: 1b Uniaxial strain -
exhumation, elastic and MC).
In your report, you will compare the obtained numerical results with the analytical
solutions we obtained on the TDs for both purely elastic and elasto-plastic (Mohr-Coulomb
(MC) model) material behavior for the same parameter values. At what ν value failure
never occurs during the burial? Investigate this both numerically and analytically.
2. Uniaxial compression tests in a purely elastic deformation regime and with the material failure
(folder: 2 Uniaxial compression, elastic and MC).
Compare the numerical and analytical solutions. Analyze the strain localization process
and its dependence on the dilatancy angle χ =dil . Check whether the numerical models
π φ χ
confirm theoretical formula ψ= − − .

3. Explore how the strain softening affects the strain localization and the stress-strain curves
(folder: 3 Uniaxial compression, strain-soft, MC).
4. Explore how the friction at the model (block/specimen) ends affects the deformation and
failure processes as well as the stress-strain curves and the measured uniaxial material
strength.
5. Investigate how the material heterogeneity affects its global response (both elastic and
inelastic) and the measured values of elastic parameters (folder: 4 Uniaxial compression,
Gauss nu)
