Abstract
At the time of the prevalence of analyses of the sociology of domination and dependency, some
political scientists, in the late 1970s, began to relativize the scope and the intensity of the contrat
exerted by authoritarian or totalitarian régimes on the social groups which were subordinate to them,
and to investigate these groups' autonomous political activity. Generally speaking, political science has
lagged in ils exploration of these problematics of « the lower level » when compared to what
historiography and anthropology have achieved. Ils contribution is nevertheless indispensable, for the
most innovative research in these disciplines avoids the problem of power and of the state. To
understand the growing revenge of Society on the state, in Africa or in Asia, it is necessary to go
beyond the classic binary analyses as illustrated by the concept of « civil society », and to reason in
terms of enunciation of politics. In that respect, the Western traditions of politics and of the state meet
the native traditions of power. It is at this junction that new legitimate problematics of politics appear,
with identification movements, religions or musical for example, as major melting pots. They probably
signal a growing reappropriation of the state by society.
