Dialogue
“…en tant que professeur…” – “… as a teacher…”. That’s “en tant que” en tant que
an expression we can use in a number of situations: for
example “Daniel works as a publisher”… = “as (a)”
Daniel travaille en tant qu’éditeur. travailler en tant | qu’ingénieur
| que comptable
Or, “Marianne works as a receptionist”… | que vétérinaire
Marianne travaille en tant que réceptionniste.
“Le RMI”?…
Oui, “le RMI”. C’est le « Revenu minimum d’insertion ».
C’est pour les gens qui sont au chômage, mais qui
Remember!
n’ont pas droit aux allocations chômage. le “SMIC”
the minimum wage
You’d better explain that to us again. Who exactly receives
le “RMI”
the “RMI”?…
social security payments
C’est le « Revenu minimum d’insertion ». C’est pour
les gens qui sont au chômage, mais qui n’ont pas
droit aux allocations de chômage.
Now, say that just one more time – I think I’ve got it…
Alors, le Revenu minimum d’insertion, c’est pour […]
Before we continue, Amélie, we should stop here and say ne … pas ne … pas
a brief word about the negative. Here we spoke about…
… les gens qui n’ont pas droit
To make a negative, put “ne”
(or “n’”) in front of the verb and
“… people who don’t have (a) right…”. Here’s an example “pas” after:
of the negative – “les gens qui n’ont pas droit” – where we Il aime le chocolat.
have the word “ne” before the verb, and the word “pas” –> Il n’aime pas le chocolat.
after the verb. It’s quite simple. Let’s go back to a verb we Elle joue de la flûte.
met in our last lesson – “lire” – to read. Now, “I read…” is: –> Elle ne joue pas de la flûte.
Je lis.
