REAL OR FAKE NEWS ?

THE PAST TENSE (= le prétérit)

France organised a great ceremony for Bastille Day on 14th July.
The American team won the championship last year.
que « last year », « three years ago » = il y a 3 ans, « yesterday », « on Monday », « in June »...)

vocales) = [b, g, Z, Ù, l, m, n, D, v, z] Ex : carried, played, loved
p, s, T, S, Í, s] Ex : attacked, washed, watched, stopped

Ex : The British didn't want to stay in the European Union.
Comme « BE » est à la fois verbe et auxiliaire, il n’a pas besoin de l’auxiliaire « do » à la forme négative
Ex : He wasn’t at the station.

LES QUESTIONS AU PRETERIT

1- Questions ouvertes : Mot interrogatif + (complément) + DID + sujet + Base Verbale (+ complément) ?
= WH- = CPLT = S = BV
Ex : What did you do during your holiday ? How many days did you stay there ?
2- Questions fermées : DID + sujet + Base Verbale (+ complément) ?
Ex : Did you have a nice time ?
Exceptions
Ex : What happened there ?

Ex : Where were you ?
utiliser DID.

Ex : Did you have a nice time ? => Yes, I did. / No, I didn’t.
Ex : Was he with his friends ? => Yes, he was. / No, he wasn’t.

UNDERSTANDING AN ARTICLE
LEVEL 3
STEP 1 – PARATEXT

This document is an article extracted from a (web)site called « Music Mundial ». It was written by Sebastien Ramirez
and published on July 13th 2023. On the photo, we can see King Charles III and his wife Camilla.
Thanks to the title, we can guess the article deals with a secret on their marriage.

STEP 2- GENERAL UNDERSTANDING

- Who : King Charles III and Camilla Parker
- Where : United Kingdom – Charles and Camilla’s bedroom
- When : 2005 = Charles and Camilla’s marriage – nowadays (= de nos jours)
- What (issue/problem) : They sleep separately.

STEP 3 – DETAILED UNDERSTANDING

a- Vocabulary b- Linking-words

leaked   feu.e (personne décédée) Find the right translation : de plus / d’autre part / à
cause de / cependant / pour couronner le tout
late   décennies

managed   convient - due to = à cause de

- however = cependant
begged   divulguer, fuiter
- on top of that = pour couronner le tout
decades   a supplié - in addition = de plus
according to   a réussi à - on the other hand = d’autre part

suits   selon

« ...but they managed to come up on top and be happy together against all odds.

- long-lasting = qui dure longtemps (help ! last = durer)

Sum-up : Résume ce que tu as compris en anglais. Puis relève les mots de liaison.
Charles and Camilla faced much difficulty to be together and a lot of people disagreed with their marriage – even
Charles’s sons ! Yet they got married anyway and looked like a happy couple.
But the tabloids declared that they are not sleeping in the same room anymore. As a consequence, many royal fans are
wondering if they will stay together while other people think it is a good solution to make their love last longer.

Yet = cependant / as a consequence = en conséquence / par conséquent
