IVANKA, THE NEW MUSE
Ivanka, nouvelle muse
Last month, a new art exhibit depicting Ivanka Trump pushing a vacuum cleaner was
shown at the Flashpoint Gallery, a museum in Washington DC. The performance piece,
called “Ivanka Vacuuming,” was conceived by the artist Jennifer Rubell. Viewers were
invited to throw breadcrumbs in the path of an Ivanka Trump look-alike, dressed in an
Washington DC
outfit drawn entirely from Trump’s own clothing line, and pushing a professional
vacuum cleaner over a fuchsia carpet. A text description of the work in the gallery
described Ivanka Trump as “a figure whose public persona incorporates an almost
comically wide range of feminine identities – daughter, wife, mother, sister, model,
working woman, blonde”. Her father, U.S. President Donald Trump, and her brothers
Jennifer Rubell Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, called the exhibit a sexist attempt to humiliate her.

A SERIES OF DEFEATS
Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un, met for their second summit.
This historical meeting took place in Hanoi, Vietnam, but was cut short after the two sides failed to reach a
deal on nuclear disarmament. Trump stated that he had to “walk” because North Korea wanted all of the
sanctions to be lifted before dismantling the Yongbyon nuclear facility. At the same time as these talks were
taking place, another crucial event was unfolding in Washington, D.C. Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former
attorney, gave an explosive public testimony before Congress, where he accused Trump of having prior
knowledge of his son’s June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer and that WikiLeaks was poised to release
damaging information about Hillary Clinton, among other things. “He is a racist. He is a con man. And he is a
cheat,” he said of the American president.
