The authors explore the role of lies during different stages of develop-
ment. They analyse the way a child organises his relationship with adults
so as to lessen the anxieties with which he must deal. Beginning in the anal
stage, the child learns to fool them to protect his psychic intimacy and to
emancipate himself from them. During the phallic stage, the child lies to
counter-cathect the feeling of being intellectually dominated by adults.
Then, during the oedipal stage, he uses lies to thwart the parental couple
but also to externalise the splitting that the incoherences of his environ-
ment produce in him.
Keywords: Lies – Transitional space – Intrusion anxiety – Spoken act.
