on entend un verbe qui n’est ni auxiliaire (Be ou Have) ni auxiliaire modal (can, could, shall,
should, must, will, would…).
PREMIER CAS: la Phrase comporte un auxiliaire (be ou have) ou un auxiliaire modal (can,
could, shall, should, will, would, must…)à on ajoute NOT après l’auxiliaire ou l’auxiliaire
modal.
Exemples:
1- Mr. Diagne has left for Fatick. àMr. Diagne Diagne has NOT left for Fatick.
2- Mariama is smart and kind. à Mariama is NOT smart and kind.
3- Modou can lift a 100kg bag of rice. à Modou canNOT lift a 100kg bag of rice.
4- They will arrive tomorrow. à They will NOT arrive tomorrow
5- We shall work together. à We shall NOT work together.
6- You must leave early. à You must NOT leave early.
simple past
1- She speakS wolof and English. à She DOESN’T speak wolof and English
2- The Mouride believe in Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba. à The Mouride DON’T believe in Satan.
3- Malick believeS in God. à Malick DOESN’T believeS in Satan.
4- His friend Moussa went to Niakhar. à His friend Moussa DIDN’T go to Niakhar.
5- We talked to the boss yesterday à we DIDN’T talk to the Boss Yesterday.
6- She took the money. She DIDN’T take the money.
7- He loves mafe. He DOESN’T love mafe.
Exemple:
1
Went à didn’t go ß(Remarquez que Went devient go, l’infinitif sans TO)
question porte sur le sujet (eg. Fatou lives in the forest. Who lives in the forest?)
Pour les verbes ordinaires, on aura besoin de l’auxiliaire DO (DO ou DOES au présent et DID
au passé)
5- Abdou loves football. à DOES Abdou love football?
6- Aicha looked very sad. DID Aicha look very sad?
7- The boys play well. àDO the boys play well?
8- They played well. à DID they play well?
9- The women went to the market early. à DID the women go to the market early?
